For those laid off with April 21st as the last day

Your 90 days are almost up. Please just submit anything for now even if you don't know what training you will be doing. You have until April 20th of 2016 to complete your training and get reimbursement.

And don't assume the training needs to be in a related field. Take some flying lessons or scuba diving instructor lessons.

Clearly COP has made this "benefit" too difficult to realistically secure. The 1-yr to complete and submit original receipt is prohibitive for applying, getting accepted, enrolling and completing a meaningful course at a credible institution. Could you please provide some statistics to prove that laid off workers have actually been able to use this benefit? Why not make the time limit 1.5 or 2 years?

One caveat, the $2000 is taxable income; otherwise, a good thing overall. General guidelines noted below. The ConocoPhillips HR Connections number in the layoff paperwork can provide more details. The educational reimbursement will not be approved until after the severance is finalized (7 days after receipt).

Guidelines for Educational Reimbursement under the Severance Pay Plan

The following guidelines apply for educational reimbursement under the Severance Pay

Plan. This program applies to employees who are laid off under the.

A. Reimbursement will be limited to:

Tuition, required fees, and books for schooling subsequent to layoff, subject to a maximum

payment of $2,000. Educational costs which are reimbursed (or paid directly to a school) by a

federal, state, or governmental agency, or by any private source, will not be reimbursed by the Severance Pay Plan.

B. To qualify for payment, you must:

  1. Submit a written plan of course study within 90 days of your actual layoff date, listing the

proposed course of study.

  1. You may mail (to address below) or fax this form for approval to.

  2. Attend an accredited college, university, trade school or be a part of a certified/licensed

instructional program.

  1. All courses must be completed and requests for reimbursement submitted no later than

the first anniversary date of layoff.

C. To receive payment, you must:

  1. Submit requests for reimbursement within one year of the date of layoff.

  2. Provide the following:

a. Your name, Social Security Number, complete mailing address and phone number.

b. The ORIGINAL of your paid tuition statement/receipt.

c. Receipts for required books, listing titles next to cost.
