Know the Vakue of Your Marketable Skills!

Unlike some other countries (e.g. Japan, Germany . . .), work in USA is strictly AT WILL. There are no guarantees unless you have an employment contract. Neither employee or employer owe each other anything but a paycheck for value rendered. Hence in USA, we must keep skills up and marketable; always keep feelers out for other job opportinities. Consider yourself an independent contracter with a 2-week assignment that may or may not renew. Act accodingly and free yourself from the fear of layoffs.

UK took voluntary redundancy, paid down my mortgage, done up my house, month on holiday and into another job.... Best thing i ever did. You could too. My house is mine and now i care not. Good luck everyone.

I couldn't agree more. Don't be afraid to take new opportunities and learn from them. You only get out what effort you put in.
