Now if LG buys Broadcom's connectivity business, then that might be a more credible threat...But I doubt that would happen...

LG's marketshare in smartphones is so tiny, it's not even really a big deal one way or the other. And you can't really just survive on an app processor. You also need the LTE modem and connectivity, which LG doesn't have.
