Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Layoffs

The negative energy in our office is palpable!! All this layoff talk has people waiting around for the hatchet to fall....wish they would get'r'done and carry on with business, even though I will probably be one of those that gets cut!

138172 - they are cutting the cheapest first. Q1: claim 1/8th of the workforce are ao bad you can terminate them for cause then cut them with no bonus/stock/RSU's. Q2: announce layoffs and cut another 1/8 by targetting those with three or less years experience to reduce severance expnse, Q3: another 1/8th and then Q4 the final 1/8th to make 50%. Well that was the plan at the start of the year - if the pattern repeats we will see more layoffs next year ...

Yep you and thousands of your coworkers are part of the attrition plan. $485 weekly for Tx unemployment won't pay for health insurance much less the house note. It won't be a joking matter when it happens no matter what company you are from. Divorces, depression, cross country moves, kids back to public schools, fancy cars and houses going back to the bank are realities. Just add up your monthly expenses and see how fast it goes through your savings. Not many qualified buyers for the 5 bedroom, high taxed Katy house either. Not many jobs on major oil company web sites to absorb everybody.

I don't understand why they have not asked for people to raise their hands and volunteer to leave to save the jobs of other people? I would do it and so would most of my friends who I started with so many years ago. Give me guaranted severance and I'll gladly go but only if I know that I am saving someone else's job. Why would they keep me when I planned to retire in 2016 anyway? Unless they know that and I am part of their attrition plan.

There is no option to collect your stuff. Supervisor comes to office and says "hey can you come with me for a second" and you are then literally walked through multiple buildings away from your office. Small uncomfortable talk is made until your 5 minute walk is over and you see her in the room. Security never comes, and your badge is gone so you can't get your stuff. My purse was brought to me in my boss's backpack.

Pretty sure I will collect my stuff from my office if it is my time to go. I would be professional and not cause a scene. If the security guard didn't agree they better find someone bigger than myself, I haven't seen one that fits that bill yet.

I wish they would " pull off the bandaid" and we could move-on. Some people are showing signs of major stress, if this last until December, it's going to be rough. As we all know (until we get fired) is waiting is the hardest part. Good luck to you all.

Unknown to me if the trip to the conference room was a promotion or a termination. Discussions were ongoing with management and HR for a promotion at the time of the layoff. Good spirits regardless of the end result of the meeting in the conference room. The HR representative was rather nervous. Look around the corner for the "security guard" to determine promotion or termination; a security guard around the corner is the best indication of a layoff. The offer remains to collect the personal items from the office. (still waiting on some stuff...)

It was no different the first round. They announced the 3 day layoff window and we just hung around the office waiting for a call. You see your co workers walking down the hall and never coming back. Nobody knew how many in total, just your personal knowledge of your floor or work group. After your work group is purged you get the announcement that you have missed the massacre. Pitiful way to do things even if you didn't get the exit call.
