Anonymous138481, interesting analogy. Although the market has been disobeying Q's market and sales projections for some time. Who knows if any of these so called high growth markets will take off as planned
Here is another spin - If you really work at Q you will see lots of redundancy and processes that have too many people. Remember all the previous posts about needing 10 people to make a simple software change? There is some truth to that. At this same time, I am not advocating or saying that layoffs are needed, but its part of any business as we move along and change as business needs changes. Bottom line, get over it and deal with it.
Let me try: You have some cows and you sell their milk to your customers.. people find milk is cool and healthy. milk replaces coke and demand rises exponentially. due to high demand, you suddenly need to produce more milk. you buy more cows. may be more than you currently need to well prepared for future demand . now all of sudden things are changing, other people started selling milk, people want cheaper milk, goat milk etc and you are loosing customers. your profit is shrinking. what would you do? keep the cows with higher milk production, move some cows where the grass is cheap, let the extra cows go, invest more in other species which will be in high demand by 2020. isn't it?
