Qualcomm speculates in the spectrum market. It's a nice place to be a speculator if your friends in government will allow you to buy spectrum. They did this with MediaFLO, they bought TV channel number 56, saying they needed it for mediaflo. In reality, they held it for 5 years and sold it for 300% profit. Now, here is some UK spectrum that has been idle and qualcomm makes 36% annual return holding it for 8 years. By purchasing spectrum and sitting on it, they contribute to spectrum shortage at home and abroad, which forces service providers to upgrade to Qualcomm's latest (more spectrally-efficient) products because there is no spectrum available for new customers. Yuck. That's evil.
