Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron and their HR bullies!

Well its been a week since I've got my notice and received all my information on how on our payroll days of 60 day's of pay and severance package. Your supervisor advises you to have a plan B! Well I have and I'm getting many other offers from several of our competitors and other industry related positions. But Chevron really knows how to put the monkey wrench they have advised me if I do take another offer from a competitor or from a BP contracted with Chevron that my severance would be eliminated and I am officially resigning from the company! I guess upper management and the folks from San Ramon had it all figured out cuz I guess their life money and their families income revolves around the Chevron world. Don't let HR bully you and tell you that you are still a current employee and you have to act accordingly for the reputation of Chevron sake....! Has anyone else experienced this kind of nonsense?

Just don't tell them. The only way they can figure out when you started working for another company is if you tell them or give your new employer any contact info from Chevron. The only thing Chevron will see is a company you worked for on a tax return, so they will only know the year, not the month you started.

At least Chevron gives you 60-day w/pay plus severance ....most company's won't even give you that. The most I received from a previous employer when I was laid off was 3-weeks paid with one week per year as severance pay. That's it.

The 60-day notice period is a Federal requirement (WARN), not a Chevron rule. The employee is still concede red by law AN EMPLOYEE during this period. If you want your severance pay, do not get onto another employer's payroll. You can accept an offer and keep it a secret, but do not start your new job until after you have filed the proper paperwork at Chevron. Start your new job one day too soon and you run the risk of losing your severance pay.

They laid you off, you can accept another job, just don't advertise it. There are so many people laid off, the will never notice. As for you severance, its yours for the taking. Many HRBP's have no clue, some only have a few months experience and think they know it all. Review your materials and if there is no language saying otherwise then accept. Consult an attorney if need be.....

HR exists to protect the company from its employees.

It seems to me that most of you people do not understand the concept of severance. Severance is paid to assist you for time you may be unemployed. If you quit a job at Chevron to take another why do you think you should be compensated? It's not just for shits and grins and it's not compensate you for any of the bullshit you've gone through. If Chevron wanted to it could make you work through your 60 day notice period. So consider it a paid vacation relax and don't start a job anywhere else.

CA Refinery competitors and facilities HES are looking for folks. And for those who say they are HR spy's take some notes cause you may be next on the chopping block! The market and our beloved "Shares" will be taking a dump and recovery will be long..! So have some sympathy for the folks who worked there ass off for this company and got the shit end of the stick, not because of their performance but not hanging around the who's who's within the company. Believe me within SJVBU they have tons of them!!!

Running a "tax report"? Chevron would have to subpoena such information and would need evidence to do so. Your tax information is not public domain. The only tax information Chevron gets on you is the copy of your W-2 they provide you with in February.

Don't take everything these HRBP types are telling you, as they are not working in your best interest. Don't fall for that thing they may say about "its okay to accept an offer and work for another employer within the 60-day period that you are being paid by Chevron". Two incomes will show up easily by running a tax report. If you are premature in getting to work elsewhere too early, you will get burned by Chevron. Tell your prospective employer, you accept their offer, but you cannot get on their payroll until AFTER your 60-day period with Chevron expires. Use your head, don't fall for crap that your HRBP may say about this subject.

As a shareholder, I want HR to chase up on guys who accept employment before the two month period and stop the pay and severance. Employ some detectives if necessary.

I was told by my HRBP that I could go to work whenever I can, so long as the company is ok with me working 2 jobs at the same time (not technically, but officially). If the new company has an issue with it, I can basically tell Chevron to discontinue my paychecks, my severance would not be affected.

One concern I have is that I have a lot of conversations with my HRBP that contradict what I read, etc. And anytime I've asked for a follow email to confirm....I get nothing but dead air.

What companies are dishing out offers, if you don't mind?

During my exit interview, my HRBP told me that I could begin work with another company immediately and that I would continue on payroll through 10/15 and then receive severance. Based on what is stated in the packet they gave us, it sounds like the moment you begin working for someone else then you are voluntarily terminating your employment and will not receive the severance. That sounds like some B.S. to me considering I also asked if I would need to report back to them if I started a new job while I was still on payroll and I was told no. I personally will not being saying one word to them if I start a new job before 10/16.

You're absolutely right! All the others that I've had came in contact with surprisingly understand this process, just my thoughts it is a slap in the face from Chevron that to maintain reputation for the company really!!! I'm with you man screw them gotta look out for my family and move on to bigger and better things, there is life after Chevron but just a little disappointing on how things are being managed.

My friend, screw Chevron and think of #1, yourself. Game the damn system. Come clean with your next employer. Explain that you can start on X date and not sooner, else you get stiffed from Chevron. If the employer is dying to get you onboard sooner, they will need to compensate you for what you will be giving up.
