Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

GSAT at Chevron is a joke and so is the manager in charge who is the gum off the VP shoe.

The truth is usually somewhere in between.

Understand that all you read on these forums is not factual--case in point. I've known Ashleigh for years as nothing but a hard worker and someone easy to work with. While she started as a contract admin, she proved herself through the demonstration of her increasing HES fluency, office management and project support. She went back to school and received her Bachelor of Science Occupational Safety and Health degree several years ago--leading to her transition to a business unit and the Horizons program. If you're going to vent about being upset about how things are going in these tough times for oil and gas, at least truthfully know and speak what is fact.

While it is true I have worked for Chevron for over 30 years, I have no supervisory or monetary responsibilities. I have no clout in assisting my daughter or anyone in obtaining employment with Chevron. As for Ashleigh’s mother, she left Chevron 13 years ago, no nepotism there. Ashleigh has a degree from West Virginia University and was brought in as a contract employee initially, though a staffing company. An opening occurred in her group and she was the best qualified, so Chevron hired her. She then took the necessary training to become an HES Specialist, at which time she was “promoted” (increase in pay grade only). Then, as part of the Horizons program, she was sent to AMBU, much to my disappointment. As with a lot of AMBU employees, her job was done away with and so she took a job in Houston. She is well qualified for her current and prior assignments. I do not appreciate the slander against my daughter, who works well with everyone and does a very good job for Chevron, and the derogatory comment against Greg Pritchett. Like everyone else, we are affected by the downturn, as one of my sons was laid off as a petroleum engineer and has not been able to find another job. So, please, if you have to vent, at least check your facts.

Ashley Downy is the poster child for nepotism. Her move from Pittsburg back to Houston was a sham. Sad sad sad. My understanding she had very bad PMP so promote her to Houston?

Why not call the Chevron hotline about the employee below or better yet ask John Watson what is up with this type of behavior. Must have cost a lot of money to move this person to Pittsburg and back to Houston. An outrage!!

Ashley Downey, NEPOTISM at its finest. Both her parents work at Chevron with 30 years under their belts. This little girl is by training, an interior designer, however, her parents get her a job as a secretary (no problem there). But then she is "promoted" to AMBU as an Industrial Hygeinist Lead. Yes, a Lead role. Almost no sooner as arriving, her lack of skills get her moved back to Houston... this time she is moved into a role in Global Supply & Trading. Jesus Christ, someone fire both her parents and the jackass who promoted her in the first place. NEPOTISM NEEDS TO GE ELIMINATED IN THE NEW CHEVRON. If a son or daughter applies and is accepted, the parent or sibling must resign or retire. No other way!

Oh no, us Downstreamers already got our scalping in 2010. CVX's 2Q 2015 P/L was the first time that I can remember when Downstream made more money than Upstream (but easy to do the Upstream loses as s**tload of $$$$). Now comes the connected deadwood from the service groups and Upstream to bloat our ranks and "add value" !

I see you typed the Occupational Health GSAT story on your phone. I will help clarify. Ashley Downy was a secretary hired in Houston by her parents influence, both long term Chevronites. Her husband is a butcher so they lived on her income. Mom and Dad got her into the new BU AMBU were she mystically became an Industrial Hygienist, which is the most technical of all safety positions. Greg Pritchett made that decision. If you know Gay Greg you know he is nice but dumber than a door nail. She of course had bad reviews because she was not qualified. She was then plucked out of AMBU this winter and mystically became smart in hedging and is now part of GSAT. People wonder why Chevron is broke?

Good old GSAT. I will tell you exactly why we can not get out of this mess. Chevron hired a secretary for in Boston with an interior design degree, I bet she can pick fabric for your drapes lol. She was mean and nasty but actually a good Secretary. I asked how she got away with that attitude. Both her parents work at Chevron. 30 years.....that made sense. So I come to work and she is gone. Transferred to AMBU. I ask as a secretary? No as the Occupational Health team lead? A year later I see her in Houston and I ask what happened in AMBU. She said the put her in a role she never had education or experience at. She got transferred to GSAT. GSAT now has a bit h secretary that can help match carpets with drapes.

GSAT = Global Supply and Trading ? I thought that the Downstream groups already did a giant ROM a few years ago, and supposedly purged their "dead wood". Or did they also make big bets on oil staying at $100/BBL ? In that case they are bleeding money, and should have the ROM axe coming again. Or maybe GSAT just have CVX's inherent handicaps - managers who do nothing but Safety Moments, ChipDip for the Sh**Dips, PMP / PASA rankings that predetermined and demoralizing, paralysis by never ending analysis . . .
