I don't want to stir up race and gender discussion just simply asking for some insight and information.

So,... you're all, like,... racially, pretty cool, huh? Some laughable shit, man!
Okay then, if only the black-white bickering bothers one or two posters in this tread... let me add in the other minorities to make them happy. Let's add the spicks, sand niggers, ragheads, and the chinks. Happy now?
You clearly have no clue. They specifically told us if we have to choose between two candidates we have to pick the diverse one regardless of qualifications. That is a problem.
No.
Chevron is very fair and diverse. It's the best energy company voted #1 to work for.
No. Anonymous140513 is the problem… And so are you for not recognizing that.
The question was raised solely for minority in general; women, blacks, espanish, and ....
Anonymous140596 is the problem.....
So what's interesting is how quickly this question turned into a discussion about black-and-white. That was likely the intent because this was already addressed in an off handed way earlier, however look around you it's not just black-and-white...however here in this country we can always count on limited minds bickering about black and white and affirmative action and unqualified people.
Wake up!!!! The country Is more diverse now. The company is more diverse also however the comments are as backwards as they were back in the Civil War. Do you realize that America is slipping backwards and do you realize that this is part of the reason why. Is this all you have to offer… The same old stuff your great-grandfather had. Is there anything anybody can come up with which may help Chevron other than bashing everyone and now starting mini race wars on an anonymous site. Anything anybody or continuation ofthe same old stuff
No one is safe. if you think the your black-hued skin color or your good ole boy heritage should save you, you are exactly what we do not need.
I bet they're just as inclined to let blacks go. Probably the only reason most of them were hired were for diversity reasons. So by default they are probably under qualified and under performing compared to the herd. This is what happens when California runs a company. Let's fill it with diversity and ignore competence. What could happen? Who cares what color you are let's just hire some competent people.
Nepotism is king, as is being a "good ole boy".
Absolutely not! The almighty dollar is controlling this game. Now... legal will analyze that data and put there legal stamp on it, but fact remains no one is safe in this market. I think the "good ole boy" has a better shot than race or sex.
All things being equal (employee performance, attendance, and team players), I'm 99% positive the minority WINS the contest at Chevron. It will be gauged by HR, who constantly are preoccupied with demographics and political correctness.
1 out of the 5 people that were let go from my dept in the RAE in SJV was black (leaving 3 black guys out of the remaining 142 employees, if my count is correct). Plus a black engineer was terminated two months ago for improper use of company vehicle.
Everybody should be fair game for firing.
At this time I will go out there and say no. As Chip Dip & Salsa said... If you are highly technical, or you have a niche that can not be replaced, or if what you do can not be replaced by a less expensive contractor(Blue IT people here) then your chances are better. If your a chart and art person your out. If your job involves BS process, adds little to no value I'd worry. We are at the point where race and sex are out the window and who provides the best real value will stay.
The Chevron PMP system is corrupt. And it's hard to bring value to a big fat turd. Chevron has been taken to task 3 times that I know of for dismissal of a minority then could not prove why the person was terminated. The PMP process does not hold up well under cross examination. Because Chevrons low minority recruiting....less than 1.5% in North America they will not fire a black employee.
Didn't get my answer, let me phrase it better, if you employee with same performance results, if one if minority and the other is majority. would it be an advantage for being a minority for selection btw the two.
I think worker's are safer than non-workers. Ask yourself, "what value to I bring to the bottomline?" If the answer is arts & charts...prepare yourself.
