Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Does anyone have any serious inside info on when the layoffs will start?

I check other companies layoff boards and people at those companies seem to have an idea on what is going on. I feel like us at COP don't have a clue what is going on. Poor communication is an understatement.

I think treasury services laid off some last week. Are they doing more this week?

Today? Man that's early. Talk about a sneak attack on those people. I would actually prefer to find out today. Just let me know.

Funny, if you read the other companies boards on this website there is not near the level of anger/hatred/discontent that there is within the COP world. Leads me to believe one of two things

  • COP employees are the whiniest in the oilfield (find this hard to believe - the groups are large enough that every company should have their fair share of whiners)

  • COP has royally botched this from Day 1 (think back to the January addresses from ELT - the company has basically thrown away a year - nobody is working anywhere near their potential due to all of the uncertainty surrounding)

Personally, I would suggest #2 is much more likely.......

I give up many weekends and nights to get my work done, this year I seriously regret giving all those hours up when I know they could just lay me off. It is really hard to give that extra to an employer that might screw me over in a few weeks.

I find it difficult to focus on my current workload and not be affected by the talk and knowledge knowing that layoffs are going to occur.

Layoffs will start 2nd week of sept. They have been accelerated due to low commodity price enviroment.

Expect 4000+ layoffs.

We were told that the BU restructuring and BU manager and above SGLs would be announced mid-Sept, immediately followed by the SGL 19-21s, and then the lower SGLs. So enjoy your Labor Day holiday and expect to hear some announcements a week or two after that.

Unless there is a way to make yourself have a younger age & lower pay grade, you may just be out of luck!

Maybe I'm naive, but I'm pretty surprised by the lack of communication from our leadership. I expected more updates on the COST website and from our BU executives at least. I'm sure it will all hit the fan soon though. The COST team is providing their recommendations to the ELT this week I believe. Until then, I suppose all you can do is work hard enough to keep your superiors happy and don't draw negative attention your way.
