Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron, a bizarre and screwed up company

Most bizarre and screwed up company you could ever dream up. That is why I left over a year ago when oil was still $100. I used to sit in meetings and stare at my socks, thinking, "WTF am I doing here?"

I think shell is managed a little better but a lot of similar problems there right now too! It's a bad time for all of us in this industry.

Chevron has always had a management problem. It is the way managers and supervisors are selected. I remember CHIPDIP. Always thought that meant choosing the same chip off of the same old dip for management positions.

I feel the exact the same way. I look at my sucks and wonder if every other company in our sector is as messed up as we are...

This is the original poster again. Yes, I retired in mid 2014. The stupidity and lack of integrity of management permeated everything everywhere. I knew it was a recipe for disaster and the company was going to implode even without a downturn in oil price, because they cannot execute projects and spend way more than competitors. I worked for four other energy companies in my career, and none of them acted as utterly bizarre and senseless as CVX. I feel for the folks still there. All I can say at this point is that if you get laid off, stay strong and know that there is more to life than any one single company.

Smart move.

For all their talk of most admired, OE and arrogant touting of themselves, they are simply a bunch of PC children who are never accountable for themselves - until now of course. You see some of them on here laughing and insulting those who have been let go (real typical Chevron employee types hiding behind keyboards) as if Gorgon, Wheatstone, GOM, AMBU, Bigfoot, Angola, China are all something to be proud of.

It looks like you got out before the problems started showing itself. Hopefully you landed a good job elsewhere or retired successfully.
