Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Horizontal ROM Moves

If you were able to stay with Chevron, but were moved horizontally to a position you didn't necessarily know/want, would you be happy, and would you stay?

I'm asking because I was put in this situation, which seemed fairly symptomatic of the issues Chevron HR had created in the first place, and decided to leave.

Leave while you can, do you really believe in the IT Management team? I did not believe in Louie and sure do not believe in these jokers they have now. I left because my manager was clueless about technology. They pass around managers at this place that have no subject matter expertise and then expect us to have respect for them. What a "F" up IT place. X Horizon person that found a company that walked the talk. Glad I got out earlier.

I would end up kicking someone's ass if my kids worked here. The way they interact in unacceptable and if it was to my child I would bitch slap the Chevron picked last in gym class bullies. I am to old to get charged with felonious assault.

If I had a son or daughter here I would say leave, The post below says it all. The longer you stay the less marketable you are.

Here are some points for consideration:

1.If history is any indication (and trust me more times than not it is), this downturn will last for years;

2.If your area of work applies to other industries (unlike petrotech) you will have opportunities outside;

3.A lot of the people that have been with the company for YEARS, do not have the education or the marketability to look for other jobs (did you know we have managers with high school diplomas?!? Believe me…wonder why so many bigots? Uneducated trash everywhere!)

So my suggestion to you is to go look for other opportunities and not to sell yourself short. I expect A LOT of young qualified people to leave this company soon. The way they have been managing it makes anyone wonder: what am I doing working for this company and working with this people????? I hope it helps (so you know, I am on the same boat as you). Good luck.

It's called integrity and believing in yourself enough to know you'll land on both feet in a better environment (which wouldn't take much given the current climate). I suppose if I worked at chevron for the last thirty years I'd be afraid to take a risk too.

A job is a job. Guess you had other resources that enabled you to make this choice. Thanks for opening up a position for someone who did not have your resources. Good luck to you!!
