Treating your employees like human beings is just bad for business, would you not agree with this statement? They treat you well when you're young so you invest your entire future with the company, retirement stocks, health and life insurance, everything, then they can treat you like shit when you're old because they own your ass.

Old school is an understatement. Management promotes their buddies and those who go out drinking with them or are related to them.
Supervisors spend time micro-managing and creating metrics to impress their idiot bosses. In my group, the supervisor, takes his morning walk to see who is in and who is late. He keeps a time tracker spreadsheet to count the vacation days, but knows absolutely nothing about the work we do, to the point that he never gives states an opinion to his peers about our processes.
The boss loves him because he meets all the metrics of having PMPs, CDPs, BBS, etc completed on time. We heard he got the job because he was highly recommended by one of his manager buddies.
Shoot, think of your inept supervisors. They love this place. They don't do shit and make bank. 2 years ago as a 22 yo. Come in at 9, leave at 3. Take every Friday off because your boss won't know ur not there when they are not. THEY LOVED IT! Never had any deliverables, no deadlines. What they did see was horrible leadership and what they are seeing now is a product of that leadership.
Ever read Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman"? It's all there.
