Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

QC is in deep trouble

It is official now; there are no other US companies in mobile space. Marvell just quit. All companies that got out of mobile saw profit and stock price go up. What options does QC have?

Qdrones will kick butt. The toy market is only brief waypoint for the real market in delivery services. While 2nd gen Qdrones are dispatching prescription drugs and pizzas, inferior Chinese drones will be struggling with kung pao chicken deliveries.

Half a day's worth of chips is all we'll be able to sell after everyone takes The Pledge and achieves hourly pay equity with SM. Then the drone market will be very attractive;we wouldn't be able to handle the volumes otherwise

161210: Military drones are already being manufactured by N-G and GA, who pretty much have a lock on those contracts. That leaves the commercial sector--which is essentially "flying cell phones." Not even that complex. So you have a device with an initial release that sells for about $300 around X-mas time, if QC is lucky; after that, the Chinese will start manufacturing them for sale at Walmart for about $89.99. That's worse than the margin on the S5!

1 million units is a half day of chip sales for phones. The incremental volume is meaningless in light of 500 million chipsets sold per year. The same can be said for automotive, small cell, and the other new business areas the company is pursuing.

QC has big plans for drones. The combined market of drones in 2015 might exceed 1 million units. Can you say big money?
