Which company to work for next? Intel? Broadcom? Mediatek? I didn't make it to apple.

Alternatively, you could apply for the QCOM Political Division ("QPOL"). Submit your resume and cover letter to ATTENTION: Irwin Jacobs. There are a few prerequisites: Chief among these, is you must appeal to both conservatives and liberals. (1) Must be married (preferably straight) and have a photogenic family. Kids with excellent academic history and no prior history of drug use, delinquency, or obnoxious habits such as nose-picking while on camera are key. (2) Must belong to established mainstream religion (--preferably Christian). (3) Must be college graduate. Advanced degrees are even more impressive. Bonus for attending religious schools! Law degree or knowledge of law helps, but is not essential. (4) Service in U.S. Armed forces is preferable. Alternatively, having a qualified disability is a plus. Bonus for wounded veteran status! (5) Must be social, and have the ability to shmooze. This is a cut above the usual kissing PM and Director butt that you do at QCOM; you must be able to smile, kiss ass, make small talk about the listener's favorite subjects, AND ask for money--simultaneously--and in a way that generates donations! (6) You must be either sexy/ruggedly handsome, tall, and have good hair. NOTE: Bald men can sometimes compensate by coyly pointing out that they have better things to do with their hormones than grow hair, but this is dicey in front of female audiences. (7) Master the "humble brag!" (8) Finally, you must show you're willing to do it all for about 3/4 of Nathan Fletcher's salary, plus benefits.

Layoffs are now part of tech industry and its going be here for very long time. Days of job security and 9-5 job are long gone. Unless you accept the fact and be always prepared for it, you cannot survive anywhere in the world.

Been through it and overcame with only hard work.

A lot of people here just don't realize how disfunctional QC is. The Indians have taken over and imported their culture into QC.

GTFO of all semiconductor companies. No money in making chips anymore. Money is in what's using those chips, NOT in the chips themselves.

@ Anonymous162254 - amen to that. If you want to actually do some real work and are sick of QC BS, get up and leave QC. For all you who are bitching and complaining - the burden is on you to get up and go, or suffer in silence. Its up to you, not QC. So shut up or put up. Im tired of all this bitching on this web site. QC isn't making you suffer, you are, but virtue of not leaving. The severance, for those that got it, is actually pretty damn generous. So, if you want to feel good about work, your future prospects, leave. Stop sitting around, reading this site, commiserating with others who spew this vile crap, and do it. For all you who say "but I cant find a job, but I wont get paid as much, I dont want to move, ..." fuk off. Im so sick of you whiners. There is a whole world out there and if you are too lazy to do anything about it, screw you and suffer at QC and just shut up and take it.

Try Marvel Semiconductor, the next low cost solution in the market attracting several customers.

If Qcomm offers a chipset at $10, Media Tek offers the same at $6, Marvel is now offering solutions at $4 much cheaper than anyone else in the market

Top of all, Marvel is a US based company

@ Anonymous162179, a very dear friend of mine, was at Intel in the 06-11 timeframe. Because of his inability to suck up to the inept managerial styles at Intel (esp. prevalent among lower-middle managers), he was put in an improvement plan for a year. He sincerely went about trying to improve his performance etc. In the end, the piece de resistance: the manager deliberately scheduled a final termination meeting on my friend's birthday. Believe it or not, this totally smacks of empire building, petty politics and back stabbing vendetta-style management. From recent checks with my Intel buddies, nothing much has changed, It has gotten more paranoid and clique-ish.

Qcom HR is also known to tolerate such practices for the weeding out the "bottom %". I know of atleast three instances in QCT, where super-qualstar earning employees somehow crossed paths with the wrong VP/dir, and were slowly ground down over several review periods to a PIP-grade. HR intervention in those cases was just to collect documentation (to protect the company). Of course, the HR behavior doesn't surprise me. So to all the un-warned in the Qcom merit process, please pay attention to what is going on...apparently at Qcom (or atleast QCT), the work you do away from your desk (like meetings) is more important than the one you do at it.

For those who value their peak potential years, leave Q if you can, and go build something greater. You may or may not be rich, but I guarantee you, you will feel more fulfilled. There are many startups, and this is after all known as the age where "data is the new software" aka big data/analytics.

You would need to be more specific about your skill sets and what you were doing at Q. However, I suspect you best fit will be I.

Intel: another q in disguise culture-wise. Strong point : deep coffers, market clout and a history of turning around product lines.

Broadcom: not much to offer. Now that avago will acquire, even loyalists are ready to jump ship.

Mediatek: sweatshop, and will suck you dry before twisting your arm to quit.

You only live once. Now your turn to decide.
