Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

South Region Hit Hard- Anyone have numbers estimates?

Buyers, supervisors, demo, marketing, artists and healthy eating jobs (at the very least) have been gutted. People who were just promoted to supervisor days ago, people who were just hired in healthy eating positions, etc. are now out of jobs in reward for their loyal, hard work. Regional execs will not be taking any pay cuts. Whole Foods employees who have been drinking the company cool-aid and dedicating their careers to this corporation are now finally seeing the moral bankruptcy at play. So much more to come on Monday for other regions.

For those who are somehow still drinking the kool-aid, the answer is no, not everyone still has their jobs. Many positions have been completely eliminated and in many cases, there are no TM positions for those people to apply for. So many people that I know are in fact out of a job, effective immediately. Try telling people in that situation to

calm down and stop being an alarmist" when they're already barely able to afford food and rent.

Just to be clear, no one on this forum has lost their job right? You are all able to go to work today?

Hey Anonymous 612818, I didn't go to work for a publically traded company, that gives you an idea of how long I've worked for this company. I've been around long enough to chronicle the changes that have taken place ever since Mr. "High and Mighty I Only Need To Earn A Dollar A Year" started to suck the teat of the evil brew that Wall Street forces all those who come to play their game and I can tell you that there once was a day when Team Member Happiness and Excellence meant something. Ever since we signed on to the evil that Wall Street forces on the game players I've witnessed a slow decline to this day. Shove your Conscious Capitalism up your ass John Mackey; it's pretty clear that the only people you are conscious of are the 1%ers, not the Team Members. Walter Robb and Glenda Flanagan, David Lannon and AC Gallo, you happy foursome are every bit as uncaring as John. The Lords giveth and then taketh away and NOTHING is happening to your salaries or bonuses, I'd stack a huge bet on that. And all of this is being done to position WFM better in Wall Street's eyes down the road so that you will continue to "justify" those huge salaries and bonuses. Well the last laugh is reserved for the meek, as PTers will never be able to provide the excellent customer service that FTers and showing loyalty to your team members will. WFM is going to become another dinosaur grocery market chain so good luck with that.

Alive, just FYI the max severance is 26 weeks. So even if you've been a TM for 15 years, you'll only get 26 weeks.

Alive, just how long have you been with Whole Foods, just curious. Because the people I know that this is affecting in my region have been with Whole Foods for many many years. People that have moved up the company ladder through blood, sweat, and tears and time away from family because we are a retail business. To be told, as an astl, that you have to compete with the other one in the store and only one of you comes out as the 'winner" is NOT WHOLE FOODS. What I learned through my 10 years with WF's is 'one team, one store', 'shared fate'. This 'restructuring' is not promoting that mentality anymore. We are fighting against each other for our livelihoods. This is not the WF's I kniw., so yeah we are 'alaarmed' and outraged.

Of course we'll wait and see how it pans out. How about passing along some helpful info to your fellow TMs in the meantime. The alarm will continue if TMs don't have the needed information about their job status. This has been a poorly coordinated roll out with half of the company in the know and the other half in the dark.

Not being arrogant. Being real. There are companies that do this once per year!

You take a job with a publicly traded company and think that it can never result in restructuring? This website is created for this exact thing.

Why don't we just stop alarming and see how it all shakes out.

I'm glad your work is good and that you're feeling confident. Good for you for your 6 months of severance, plenty of our TM's won't get that much. Only 10+year veterans. Please stop being arrogant and help support all of these TMs who are now being forced to make a life choice that they never thought they'd have to make. This is the worst work-related thing that anyone in this company has ever had to weather. Don't fool yourself.

But we are STILL employed with current rate. That is not "laid off". Also, if enough people see the severance as a way to take some time off, that opens up positions which may result in little to no losses.

I worked for a major airline once where a package simulator to this allowed me to take 6 months off that my severance paid for and then was rehired after. I got six months rest!!! Some will take the severance and be really happy with it.

"The way we were told and it appears true, no one has been laid off. We have been given the option to reapply for our restructured positions. I know my work is good so let the chips fall where they may. I've been laid off before and it did not look like this. Stop being an alarmist until we see what happens."

If you want to get technical, all of these employees actually HAVE been laid off. Their positions no longer exist as of the moment they are handed their severance packet. They now have 8 weeks to reapply and secure replacement positions. We'll see the exact number of positions available in the South Region on Monday. It will be a wicked game of musical chairs with up to half of those 600 TMs potentially being out of a job when the dust settles. The ones who don't secure the similar replacement positions to their current position will be forced down to $13/hr from whatever they currently make and potentially only have PT hours.

I'd guess that at least 600 TMs in the South have been directly affected.
