Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

post lay-off Qualcomm: the loss of innocence

Once the meat grinding machine has been activated and blood has been spilled, like PJ said - the old days are gone forever, to many Qualcomm life timers this is really the first deep cut seen at this 30-year firm. The innocence is lost. There will never be another rise from 2G to 3G to 4G to dominating the non-Apple mobile market. What is to come will be a constant struggle for survival and more amputations and blood-letting until the company fizzles away like Nortel, Wang Labs, Nokia and many others before Qualcomm.

2016 Q holiday calendar will be realigned to match that of QIPL. The Q culture will be realigned to better match the non-diverse workforce native culture.

@ Anonymous163156 is so right - really all that happened here is a collapse of the 'gravy train' structure, QC will continue to function, this time just like any other mature company. that's exacetely what JANA's asking for, and they are prompting the execs to shift their mind in that direction (no more jets, hundreds of millions of dollars etc) - it's ok to do a first class flight, a few million in comp, give workers 5 or 10 k in bonuses and move on

is there a "go/fiefdom" link? Helps find the POC who may or may not want to work with you.

Anonymous163469: who do you think workers are supposed to complain to? Complain to management about management? Or to HR whose to tied hip to hip with management? IMO, over the years Qualcomm has turned into a golden prison. Being the only relatively stable employer in beautiful SanDiego and people having vested interested (stocks and quiet good compensation/benefits) and all, and having huge mortgage commitment, people were somewhat tied to this place.... Wonder how it is going to be now...

The only way to survive at Q is to be a Sr. Staff, director or above where one can just take advantage of the low life slaves like Staff Engineers and below.

The higher up you go the less work you have to do. My director has all kind of people who's job is to make sure he doesn't have to do shit.

I hope so!

When workers smell bullshit and don't say anything and keep smelling the stink happily...that's what they deserve!

163156 I would not call it like any other company. Salaries, benefits will be like other companies, but the culture is much worse. As long as the same people are driving the company that is very unlikely to change

Nobody knows the future. I give it a 50/50 chance, have a backup plan. It's not a life definer, it's just a job.

I left QC a while ago, and understand that the work environment has degraded further, but don't be so pessimistic. I'm sure they are working like all heck to find new business opportunities, so I think its less than likely that they will go away. What will proabbly be true is that the old QC, the gravy train, days are over and the new QC 2.0 is just going to be like any other company. So take it or leave it.
