subject: Important Letter from John and Walter for all Team Members

Importance: High

Dear Team Members,

We are writing to tell you directly that we have made the difficult decision to reduce a number of positions across the company over the next two months. This will happen primarily through both consolidating and eliminating certain store and regional positions. We do expect some of the affected Team Members will take other positions in the company, and together with vacant positions remaining unfilled, we anticipate that this decision will mean an overall reduction of approximately 1,500 Team Members (1.6% of our overall workforce). Regional leadership is making every effort to speak to all affected Team Members by Tuesday morning.

We are committed to treating our Team Members in a caring and compassionate manner, so Team Members who are affected will be paid in full over the next eight weeks as they decide on what option works best for them. This may include transition pay plus a generous severance package above the industry norm, or the opportunity to choose to apply for jobs from the nearly 2,000 currently open positions. We hope many of these Team Members will choose to stay in the company in a new role. For those Team Members who choose to leave, we thank them for their service and contributions.

So, why are we making these changes now? Over the last few years we’ve discussed ways to make Whole Foods Market an even stronger company in a rapidly changing marketplace. We agreed that we must invest in lowering our prices, marketing our value and standards, and upgrading our technology in order to better serve our customers.

We know this is difficult news because it affects many hard working and dedicated Team Members in our Whole Foods Market family. We encourage you to reach out to your leadership with any questions directly or in upcoming meetings. You can also contact us both at TMFeedback@wholefoods.com and we will respond.

We’d like to express our deepest appreciation as we all work together through this time.

John and Walter

I am one of many who doesn't have a work email. But another tm got a hold of it and showed it to the rest of us. So, a majority of tms are being blindsided by John and Walter.

Dishonest, disrespectful, and SHADY AS SHIT!!! The nerve to word this letter in such a way as to give the impression you care about how this effects TMs. Would've been better to say we f***ed up and now you're paying for it. We're not incompetent, and we're not blind to your shenanigans!!!! Shame on you Walter and John!!! What comes around goes around... Good luck to you both in the KARMA department

Classic Mitt Romney capitalism. Rape workers, laugh, smoke cigar, sell company, laugh some more.

"We are committed to treating our Team Members in a caring and compassionate manner" this part made me LOL. Yea, like calling in team members on their day off 5 hours after they get home from inventory to "restructure" them. SUPER COMPASSIONATE.

I think the key word is "middle management". Sounds a little unnecessary?

Yes, it has to be at least 33% of full time work force. Ppl will not want to pay moving expenses out of pocket & their local store or metro will only have so many open positions. Why would you want to stay at a company who is taking away almost all of its middle management & greatly reducing future career opportunities to move up in leadership?

1.6% of our TMs? I'm guessing that equates to about 50% of our full time TMs.

It is a shame that this letter is being sent today rather than last week. Who messed up in the SO and FL region by calling in Team Members last week when the rest of the company was waiting to do it this week? What poor leadership from Regional and CEN TMS and Marketing to let this happen and not give better guidance on rolling out something this big. I hope this is addressed with the people responsible. It is hard enough to know you are losing your job but to find out from the internet makes it seem heartless no matter what John and Walter's letter says. It was a great 10 years and I it makes me sad to see the company send me off this way.
