Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

just a ca in avl

Wow! what a bumpy ride these few days have been!! I would never in my past considered working for a grocery store, but fell in love with Whole Foods Greenlife Grocery in Asheville and became a cashier in 2012. Through the amazing culture there and everyone who taught me and encouraged me to be healthy, I lost 70 lbs, then started working at the second Whole Foods in the city. I was a total fan of the concept and company.

I have felt for quite some time that expansion was too rapid, not organic growth, and that a fallout was imminent. Now it is here and morale is definitely way low. At first, I was so pissed at the cuts across the board and friends that would lose their jobs, but I really feel sorry that the company I work for that has bucked all conventional "textbook" methods for organics, foundations, employee satisfaction, quality standards, and CARING has succumbed to the "textbook" solution to maximizing profits for the shareholders.

If I were John Mackey, I would have enlisted support and feedback and ideas from each TM, let everyone know what needs to happen to secure a successful future for the company --- and I bet you would have found a better solution than what is happening now. just sayin'

Omg you said it so well. I'm so sorry for what happened to you all there in AVL, I heard it was rough. SO here, and we took a lot of cuts too. I'm taking my severance Wednesday and peacing out. This company sold it's soul to Wallstreet and I will not play that game.

John and Walter are basically powerless placeholders. 5%ers (shareholders who own 5%or more of WFM stock) are calling the shots. Read the latest quarterly report on the WFM website. It's all public record. Google Vanguard Funds. See what they did to their own company, and Toys Are Us and Home Depot. That's where Whole Foods is going. 90% part-timers with no benefits. It's not Margaret Wittenberg's Whole Foods anymore.
