WAS a buyer in the Pacific Northwest... came into work and was told my position no longer existed. Was given an option of accepting a severance package -- 8 weeks pay + approx. $6000ish in severance pay OR I can reapply for a new position "non perishable" buyer which would focus on finances only and not product. Devastated because I loved my job... considering options now.

if you don't get the new position, you can take the severance still, but the bonus 8 weeks pay is reduced by whatever amount of weeks you were working at the store while waiting to interview. and you can only get the bonus weeks pay if you agree not to apply for a whole foods job for 6 months.
My position in Marketing, that I accepted a month ago, is completely gone. Although so is my old buyer position too now. Maybe I'll get to be a porter. Might as well run the trash if I'm getting treated like it.
If you don't get the new position you reapply for, can you take the severance or are you SOL?
Invest the money in UNFI stock
Invest that money in the stock market.
Take the monaaaay and run.
