There's two different buying roles. One is in the stores; which is the role people are referring to here. The other is at the regional offices, and is a more traditional retail buying position.

Buyers have been responsible for some of the product selection in their departments (depends on your team), but mostly for shelf replenishment ordering, organizing promotional changeovers, merchandising, etc.
