Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

What is the purpose of Geo-market VP's?

Within Baker Highes we have VP's over the Geo-market and for what purpose do they serve? I have not witnessed any of them go to fight for the product lines that need help in their area. These guys should be out in front of customers and earning work for the company in times like these. Reading an article today about layoffs in the Bakken in North Dakota shocked me. For an area that boasted its reserves and Baker is doing layoffs. The Vice President of that geo-market should be fired. For the second largest reserve in the US that basin should always maintain some sort of activity and it and its people were not only let down by the company but that Geomarket Vice President was more concerned how his spreadsheet looks rather the. Getting his boots on the ground and building some relationships. Shame on you mr. VP!!!!

It's not only the Geo-Markets that have too many VP's (and Directors), it's the PL, Regions, and other groups! Ridiculous! Plus, so many have been demoted or changed jobs and keep the salary of the higher position, and usually with lesser responsibility! Who is the winner here?

Once Halliburton takes over, some of these VP and director levels will be flatten as part of the $2 billion cost-saving synergy. Their time will come eventually.

Unfortunately the talking head culture pervades the BHI organization. If you look at the experience and knowledge of most of the VP's (see Peoplelink) it is a sad indictment of the state of the company. Inflated job titles have also been extended to the director level, where hundreds of directors exist in title only. There is no real substance behind those titles. BHI must have more VP's and Directors than any other comparable organization. Individuals now specialize in managing their careers and not managing the business. The whole organization has become a corrupt mess.

That VP is Kevin Weatheringon and he is just a talking head. He did not help or hurt his Geo.

He held multiple meetings over the past year telling everyone it would be okay. Just keep working and making my check. Surprised someone has not done something violent to that group overall. I do not condone violence in any way but it still surprises me. We have had two employees do damage to themselves after being fired/laid off. People that distraught tend to do crazy things.

Hope everyone out there is able to hold on until the field comes back.

God bless.
