Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

For those of you affected by this layoff. SO region Grocery Buyer here.

For those of you trying to plan for the future after this tragic event that has been layed before us. Think about what's next for you. If you plan to leave the company: rather than just taking the severance package now and walking out, and gettin 40% of it taxed, stay and work the last 8 weeks. This money you earn will be taxed at the same rate it always has been. You'll also most likely get overtime, considering that many TMs will have left the company already. During that 8 weeks, find yourself another job. Always better to apply for a new job while you're still employed. At the end of the day, you'll still have the severance to take with you and you will also have gotten paid for the whole 8 weeks. You'll have more money in your pocket and a plan for what's next. Personally, I'll be going with this plan instead of walking out the door tomorrow. Do what's best for you and stay positive. I'm very sad to learn that this company no longer cares about the people who have made it successful. Good luck to you all.

A lot of people can use those 8 weeks to find a job now instead of waiting until right before Thanksgiving! It's impossible to get hired anywhere between Tgiving, Christmas, and until at least a couple of weeks into January. It's pretty hard to job search when you're working 40 hours too.

I'm sorry, but working 8 more weeks doesn't make any sense. If you get that money either way, why wouldn't you use it to look for another job? That's why it was offered to you.

You do know that you get taxed nearly 40% on every paycheck right? Blame the government for that, not WFM

How does the severance pay work? How do they you determine how much we will get ? Is there some kind of standard to this ?

Working your last eight weeks makes perfect sense ... especially considering that the 9th week is Thanksgiving.
