Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

I was on the NA Region Grocery Leadership Conference Call today

Not one mention of the restructure on the conference call today. They also canceled the Grocery TL/ATL meetings at Regional that were supposed to take place next week. This comes days after Bill Clark(a big wig) sent an email saying that the regional phone lines are conveniently "down".

They're hiding.

Props to the TL or ATL who when they were asking for appreciations responded: "All the bulk buyers and frozen buyers, they've done an awesome job and we'll miss them." Also glad to see our head regional coordinator Greg Tolos' response of "Thanks, that was a really good appreciation.".

Despite other issues we may(and should) have with our Regional team, this isn't their doing. This is a Global thing.

I am honored not to know you. May your existence at WF be short.

Anyone in a lead position is given direction from their superior-the higher-ups call the shots. Business as usual is 'his' job and if you want to keep yours, you should do the job or get out. You don't have to like the decisions being made but why speak ill of people and call them out? It does no good. You are no better than the people up top doing the layoffs.

On that call too. Could not be more ashamed of regional leadership. They could have tried to do something positive for morale. Instead they chose to talk about unimportant stuff like out of code petfood and Dancing deer pumpkin bites. Do you honestly think you can pretend getting rid of half the buyers last week never happened?

Plenty of people shop at WF only because of the quality and the selection, but many also shop there because it's the only game in town to find good quality organics and clean ingredients (no HFCS). With competition popping up all around, these items are becoming more common and the the same distributors that provide WF their organic produce are now also supplying their competition, sometimes at better prices with similar store appearance. The big players in town have also learned from WF that they can forge direct partnerships with farms and vendors to keep supply flowing. So while WF may have the largest selection of organic avocados and apples, their competition is offering similar quality products at cheaper prices. This is why WFM needs to become more competitive.

And if you're wondering what actually was discussed on the call, it was mainly bullshit about how Dancing Deer deserts need more off shelf merchandising and they'll just get lost in the regular cookie aisle. F***ing fantasy land, everyone should have a backup plan regardless of position.

Sidenote: I don't disagree with any of the cuts except for bulk buyer. Bulk is a perishable department with loads of cleaning, logging, and other labor intensive requirements. Having it as a side-project in grocery is going to read to tons of loss and a major decrease in product quality. Any monkey can do a frozen order, and any computer or Metro-TM can do a PBS's or Marketing TL's job.

No other supermarket has these made up positions that Whole Foods has. I've thought they were complete BS since I started with the company(after many years of conventional markets), and it is refreshing that others are finally realizing that. What scares me is the way they're doing away with the jobs and the reasons why.

Not cool, and not fitting to the company's image.

No one shops at Whole Foods for competitive prices, they shop because it's fresher, better for you, better for the world, and the people there love their work and stand behind it. That will all be lost as these cuts and "restructures" progress, and the Whole Foods name will become toxic.
