Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Terrible Management

Who created this short list. The supervisors and managers didn't even know who we were going to loose today. They might as well have drew names from a hat. They laid off some great people today compared to some they left. How would they have known? Simple. Talk to the people that see them every day. The supervisors and managers know the week ones and the ones that make the most effort. Upper management didn't even bother consulting with them to determine who needed to go. That is a prime display in lack of leadership and trust in the ones you have hired to lead.

There seemed to be little rhyme or reason to the layoffs. Some moderate/low performers with high salaries were kept. Other high performing, low/moderate salary people were let go. If I had to guess, it was a popularity contest at the VP and above level. If you had ever pissed someone off or anyone at that level had a hint of a negative impression of you (justified or not) you were probably let go.

Easy peasy........join the clique, drink the tang (it has vitamin C!) and keep your Chesa-job. I have a strong feeling that the intelligent among those who were let go will find something quite easily. However, I feel bad for those who stay at CHK. They do a bad job of developing internal talent and if you have been there a long time you probably aren't that marketable.....unless you go to Sandridge

Toni Parks-Payne isn't even hot. Looked her up on FB... EW. She doesn't even have a fit body!

Ha! If it was based on performance, I would still be there. "Above Expectations" on performance reviews and the kid next to me is in school and openly does his homework at his desk all day. Explain that one. It was throwing darts at a dart board in some groups.

No but she is part of the "cool crowd." That got a core value award for losing the company money. Solid work there.

They most certainly knew. All the low performers got let go in my group. The high performers remain. It's not rocket science.

Definitely no strategy. Leaves those left behind a shit show to pick up and figure out. No fun. Best of luck!

More Bob Seger ... you were just a number (or feeling like a number as it were). Doesn't matter how good an employee you are. They were looking at numbers only. If your salary was high, you were cut, simple as that. None of the supervisors knew anything in 2013 either. They just drop the layoff bomb and watch everyone scatter. It's like what Yogi Berra said: "It's deja vu all over again".

Yeah this was a very questionable layoff. Clearly it's a budget layoff. Performance was not taken into account. There will be another one in 6 months if prices stay low you watch. Managers/Supervisors didn't have a clue. Weird day at CHK... And for me my last. It was a good run. A lot of great people let go and still up there. Wish everyone the best.

I can confirm supervisors had zero idea. The lists came and shortly thereafter the meetings. No consult was made! It absolutely sucks how they did this! Get rid of people that actually do their job and do it well and keep scum! Just ridiculous!!!

Pure BS. If you weren't consulted as a manager then you were on the list who left!

I can attest to the fact that the manger I was paired with had no idea who in their group was being let go. It was a shock to them and they were merely a puppet delivering the message.
