Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

The old "shit rolls downhill" is very present here. People at the top that obviously haven't worked in a store in years and have forgotten all about how much work and manpower goes into making the store function. Same with this LoveFest bullshit. Great! Our small coffee sales are up 500% YOY, but our comps are in the shitter. Not to mention the labor, extra expenses to buy more airpots, small cups, sleeves, sugar, cream, soy milk, etc. My job is likely to be cut (specialty buyer/supervisor) after 7 years with the company because Im not interested in being an ATL. I'm not one to stroke people's egos and I speak my mind when things don't make sense or are unfair. I always new the core values, and company culture, and open door policy was bullshit but I never expected to be proven like this.

$11 an hour untrained part time schlubs with no benefits will stock the shelves. That is the new model. Nobody at Global is worried

Good point...who's going to do all the work? It's more than just throwing products on the shelves and running a register. It's handling all the details and requirements, those dozens of vendors, correcting all the mistakes, picking the right products for the market and generally sacrificing and going the extra mile. It's the people being axed who actually run the show, not the executives with their noses in the air who were in the right place at the right time in 1993 when WFM came in and bought their little natural foods grocery store. Most of those clowns never actually had to earn their roles. They think they're God's gift to retailing...Legends in their own minds. That goes for global "leadership" (snicker) too. Traveling to different stores for scripted dog-and-pony shows, going to conventions and spouting corporate rah-rah is not the same as running a company! Have fun getting your thousands of low-paid part-timers to untangle a mess of screwed up orders from numerous vendors, come in at 4am, stay late in an emergency and really take ownership of the business WE built. Not you. And remember.. you meet the same people on the way down as you did on the way up. It's a long way down. See ya at Walmart. The Wild Oats organic pasta sauce, organic bananas and Great Value organic soymilk is really good there.

I work for one of the regional offices in a non-leadership position. We were all blindsided by this news like everyone in the stores. Do not worry, our time is coming to an end as well.
