Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

After 35 years...

I was let go in April. Had a great rating in 2014 plus extra VCIP to recognize exceptional performance. At my severance meeting nobody thanked me for the 35 years and I wasn't allowed to go back to the office. Not really bummed too much about it. Had 8 weeks unused vacation plus full 60 weeks of pay. My COP traditional pension plus 401K is enough that I never have to work again unless I want to. My biggest gripe was that nobody thought to say thank you for the 35 years of service. I got exceptional performance ratings more often than not. I took crappy assignments when asked for the good of the company. Spent years away from my family. I didn't complain about it but on my last day it would have been nice if someone had looked over my personnel file and at least gave me a thanks for the effort. COP HR is the worst.

That's tough, but YOU know you did good and worked hard and you were working for God anyway, not COP. God owns us and our money. At least that is my belief, please don't bash me for voicing it. What pissed me off, and I hope you are not this guy, but this guy got laid off from COP in April after 35 years and he somehow convinced COP to give him a retirement party a month later and so I received an email that he was retiring and to show up for cake and ice-cream. Really? We all know he was laid off, so come on! He should have admitted it and moved on before his head exploded! What was worse, I called HR out on it and they denied to my face that he was laid off and would not say so. THAT was quite irritating to me.

to Anonymous171134 - thanks for your service.

Wasn't it weird to get the 35 year service award after you were laid off? My SAE was in May. At least we got a lovely parting gift. Did you get a cheesy letter from Lance recognizing your service award? Mine must have been lost in the mail. Maybe I should just scratch out the 30 and write in 35 and cross out Mulva and insert Lance!

Best of luck to you.

I was the one who originally posted this comment in another thread. I am grateful for my time at COP and the incredible career and opportunities I was given in my 35 years with the company. I was planning to retire in 2 years anyway. So really getting laid off wasn't that huge a deal. My layoff meeting was very cold when it didn't have to be that way. The company really pushed the "SPIRIT" values, but in the last hour of my employment COP didn't even come close to living up to their own values. As I said it before, COP HR is horrible. It will catch up to them in the long run.

I was let go in April, too, with close to 35 years of service. A lot of experience was escorted out the door. It was a complete shock to me, because up until that moment I had thought layoffs were going to be performance based. I was always a loyal employee. It really hurt me at the time like a slap in my face. I wish they had let me reach my 35 year anniversary. In the overall scheme of things now, I am very happy, because my financial planning was sound. I didn't want to retire then, but I am happy now. If you are laid off and unprepared, you can expect a long period of insomnia, so be kind to yourself. Good luck to all.

It's amazing how this new generation of leadership in this company has no value for experience. They think because you have a education you can do anything. The leadership is a good example,

Actually, I should thank COP. It made a decision for me because I didn't know when to stop. I liked my job. I was let go the day after I just completed my oversea assigment. Thus, I didn't have any boss for thanking me or said good bye to. I was just an MIA. Just vanished without a trace! I received my 35-year award through mail. I got some stocks in Feb. but they were worthless.

Thank you for your service. Everyone deserves appreciation for a job well done, even if he/she is paid for it.

Personally, if I had 35 years in... I know that my retirement would be in the $4m dollar range if managed it properly. I would care less for a pat on the back!

I agree. They let go of quite a few who had put in that many years in April. The guys ending up throwing a retirement/going away party for one guy a few weeks later. I got let go in April as well, very harsh and cold. Not even allowed to say farewells!

I posted this, I am not the guy who wrote it. I felt it was good to be on the main page, it was burred in a log post. If you have a problem with this, move on, go browse Facebook or Buzzfeed, lets us be here as we are discussing layoffs here and this post, even if reposed is adding value.

We know - you said all of this once already. Does repeating it make it any better?
