Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Why did most people schedule a vacation on Monday Oct 5?

I can count a number of people off work on Monday Oct 5. My question is, can a person be exempt from being laid off if they're absent?

If you are not kissing upper management's butts...you will NOT survive another layoff like one MAJOR butt kisser at the Pampa plant...she will survive!!

if you are absent it merely delays the inevitable.

if you are laid off you get paid for any vacation days accrued, just as if you have taken more than you earned they deduct from your last check.

Last week, my boss actually told a co-worker of mine who is negotiating on a new house that he should withdraw his offer and wait a couple of weeks to "be sure". Obviously, my co-worker went into full panic mode and told everyone around the office. If the rumors are true, this may be a dark week for a lot of us.

October 5 is rumored to be the day of doom for most NOV locations. That should explain the absence.

Yes. The vacation is yours. Wise ones use it up than lose it. You can be laid off whether or not you're present even during maternity leave.
