Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

At Vision Day regional leadership made so many promises they will never keep

To any team members reading: Did you know that we rented out Knotts Berry Farm for Vision Day? we were only allowed to enter after 6pm but we had it to only us. the auditoium rented for the actual meeting and the renting of the grounds for the supplier fest had to have cost an arm and a leg too. the supplier fest was mandatory for most of us. there was very little shade, a big sun, and over 100 degrees. vendors had to pay to be there. most were really upset. inadequate shade for them as well, and they had a hard time loading in their equipment. also from what i've heard they were more or less bullied to be there and the cost was crazy for them. don't we have a core value about that? we were told to let you know you could all get $2 raises a year. we told you. we were supposed to pump you up with that news. they didn't follow through. the ecs said how much they appreciate us, but don't say so when they walk the store. instead they criticize small details that are missing, while we skip our breaks and bust our butts to simply keep the shelves full. they said no more rushing to pull the store together fr walks, yet they complain if they come unannounced during our busiest hours and we don't look perfect. we also still have to run around and bring in extra labor if we know they are coming, because our STLs know that even though they said their expectations are going to be less they are still the same. they showed us ways that they are automating our jobs like sandwich and pizza order stations, and expected us to be excited. showing us that they are working to replace us was the only honest thing they did those days. we were treated to a patrick bradley performance that no one asked for or wanted. we made pledges to different initiatives like training and culinary excellence, that were never discussed again. they may not have known about the layoffs at that time but they should have known better than to waste all of that money. they should not have made promises that were forgotten by them the next day.

A drop in the bucket? We are trying to cut $20 million. How many millions would have been saved removing Vision Days throughout the company? A couple at least. The point is that the expense was needless, while people NEED their jobs. I understand the need for the cuts. I think they were done in a shameful fashion given how anchored our identity has been to our culture. If we are doing poorly enough as a company that we need to cut costs, why weren't needless expenses such as this removed, before expenses (jobs) that actually create profit and growth for the regions were?

Revenue posted on this website is listed as $14.19 BILLION. Let that figure sink in for a minute. Vision Day costs were a drop in the bucket. By the way - anyone do any shopping in WFM this week? Prices are UP.

So the company is cutting jobs nationwide to save $20 million for next fiscal year and on top of that they're also doing it for better pricing for customers. That's great!

What I don't understand is the bonuses that are given to a lot of these higher-ups in all regions. Patrick Bradley alone took over $500,000 this past year in just bonuses. That's enough to save 7 to 10 team members one year. That's also just one president of one region. Can you imagine how much the company will save if you add up all regions together? It has to be over 10 million maybe even close to 15 million in just bonuses alone. what's wrong with this picture?

We're cutting jobs were losing valuable team members yet our presidents still enjoy a big fat bonus on our expense. That what you call a win-win partnership between regional leadership and store team members.

Those two days were a shameful waste of resources. Why not invest that capital in our older urban stores like SHO & SHW?

All the money spent flying in TM's from AZ and Hawaii. All the lodging for those TM's and deliver broken promises. Where is Patrick Bradley apologizing letter to the TM's or where is Patrick hiding in his home with his cats? I am sure he will send us one of those videos on how great he is.
