If employee came to work immediately after graduation, could be laid off at 49. Yes, qualifies for 60 weeks severance but still too young to collect retirement, can't join 55+ medical. Stuck in B'Ville with few similar paying job prospects, house that will be hard to sell. Story is very believable.

Yea, either he's trying to rile everyone up or he's a real failure at financial planning.

172504's story doesn't make any sense. HR specifically gave instructions to thank employees.

After 28 years of service , you get a very nice lump sum for your pension, 401K and 60 weeks pay.

Come on! With all that, you can't make your house payments and at least pay for the kids in college?

This is a fraudster trying to rile us up

Are the layoffs still going on or have they finished for the day?

Anonymous172504 - Thank you for the 28 years of service. You deserved better on your last day at ConocoPhillips. Your long tenure with the company was valued, if not by COP today, then by your co-workers and peers. You should be proud of your long service. Best of luck to you and to your family.

Also possible with 28 years you might be eligible for retirement , maybe pension.

Don't forget to file unemployment, and do everything they say to max it out!

OK 28 years - how many times have you seen this happen to others? I am 30 years with a nearby company ;) and I have some of the same hCompany history you do. I have lost count of the number of times I have watched it happen. Seriously if you are 28 years then you should be getting at least 1 year of severance pay. Enough to make your house payments, pay tuition for your kids and look for another job before the year is out. Yeah it sucks - go home, have a few beers and then start being thankful for what you have. Heck take that boat out and go fishing.

28 years with Conoco/COP. They walked me out like a dog getting put down behind the barn. Not even a thank you.

Beautiful home in Colonial Estates - Called bank, will be letting it go back.

Truck and Boat - Post on Truck Trader and Boat Trader to sell, nobody will buy them I am sure.

2 Kids in College - So much for finishing at OSU, they will have to pay there own tuition now.

Feeling a little bit overwhelmed. Going home to drink a few beers.

7th floor also hit, only 1 that I know of and it's unlikely that she checked the box on the EOI.

I think all volunteers (signed EOI), hopefully will save jobs of those who can't afford to get laid off

Is it volunteers or nonvolunteers?

They have been notifying volunteers only on POB 5 (so far) ...
