Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Sheriffs are already posted at Eldridge!!!!!

Hopefully I'm wrong but when layoff happen officers are always called for back up. As soon as I came in to work this morning about 6-8 police cars were parked inside Eldridge building. Good luck everyone!!!!

This will definitely not be the end of all NOV layoffs. There are more to come .......well into 2016.

sad to see so many out of work but with the current economy and oil prices there is no way to just keep people employed with little work coming in. the oilfield is brutal and this cycle happens what every 8 years or so?

Sure we can put gas in the car for $1.75 now but those without a job can't. Of course them we complain when gas is $3-4/gallon and oil companies getting rich.

This downturn will most likely last well into 2016 if not early 2017, with many more jobs to be lost. Even the government allowing export of US oil will not make this turn around quickly.

I guess the next thing is to post job openings you may have heard of at other places to help each other out.

I love the togetherness by NOV employees in this downturn.

Sooo beautiful!

From Ice-cream parties in WLY to prayers and best wishes for those laid off. Hope this atmosphere continues. These are trying times and not much we can do, but show love.

I wish I could take a picture and post it. They are still here. I just saw it with my own eyes. I have seen 6 different cops here with my own eyes too. Very sad day at eldridge.

To add to my last comment. I didn't see any sheriff this morning. Walked into the Eldridge building at 7:45 so where exactly did you see them?

If you are on this site, you are obviously concerned. Why post fraudulent information if it is not true. If you just now drive by you are late. The cops were there at 6:00 am and since then they have laid off about 40-50 people and walked them out. They have left as of right now. NOV's lack of business lately is no surprise for these terminations. The problem is the communication to the employees. But being a witness to numerous layoffs in the past, you see the signs before it happens. My advice is to get out now and stop trying to ride it out. This company is shady and does not care about your family. The benefits have changed for the worse. No raises to some employees this year and it is not even worth the stress.

172361 this is 172357....I'm at work right now...I don't know how more confirmed I can be than I'm seeing it with my own two eyes. They are gathering a few at a time and having them escorted out by supervisors and a harris county sheriffright behind them. Office workers, assemblers, forklift deivers. They're definitely making a large amount of cuts today. The CEO released a statement to the Texas workforce commission in august that the first week or two of October was going to see at least 100+ layoffs in houston.

This "hate" for degreed employees is nauseating. You had opportunities and didn't use it. I've also worked my way up; from the weld shop, night classes and found my balance. Yes, degreed employees are worth our onions. Knowledge starts from the ground up and that's what we're here for - to add onto our academic experience. Should you be laid off, quit whining and head to the nearest community college. Old wrinkled NOV employees are so bitter about this. Makes me sick!

172357 and others, I am a wife of an employee who is worrying about her husband and the future of our family. When I read posts such as yours, I can only imagine the worse scenario. Because this site is read by family members also, please make sure your posts are confirmed. Thank you.

Well said No BS, I think most NOV employees are on edge constantly at the moment as they don't know what is coming or not, very poor handling by management if you ask me, they know months in advance if your job is at risk but choose to ignore the signs, NOV has a big problem recruiting experienced people as it is, so when they cut and replace with young guns just out of university they are in fact recruiting greenhorns who dont have a clue. I know several people who have so called masters degrees who can't work out in the field or work hands on because they dont know what they are doing. Dark days indeed for NOV using that philosophy.
