Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

How are departures handled?

A call from HR? Meeting with Managers? How long? What do they tell you. Please let us know...

Honestly, it was a joke. Supervisor needs some training in general people skills. He led me to a conference room to meet with the waiting HR representative, sat down and said (and I quote), "As a result of the COST Project your employment with ConocoPhillips has been terminated. I will leave you with (HR Rep) and she will explain the process." Then he left the room. Total jerk in my book. HR rep actually apologized for his abruptness.

The reply from Calgary is the standard method now.....it is improved from April where your supervisor appeared in your office, walked you to a room set-up by HR...there you were given a termination letter and HR explained the payments and paperwork...then your supervisor walked you offsite. You were not allowed to go back and pack or say goodbyes, your cop email was dead within hours.

In Calgary, I received a call from a meeting room on my floor. My supervisor was on the phone, asking me to come to the meeting room. There was an HR person in the meeting room as well. Supervisor said I was being laid off, left the room. HR person handed me my package and told me a person from the Outplacement firm would be coming in to talk to me about the services that would be available to me. HR person left, outplacement rep came in, spoke for a bit. Total process took about 15 minutes. Was allowed to go back to my desk unescorted to get my things. They give you an envelope to put your card key, Visa, phone, etc., and you leave that on your desk. They give you a taxi chit to get home.
