Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

We should get rid of Specialty team

To cut costs the company should get of specialty team and combine. That way they don't have as much TLs, atls and supes. That team has wine buyer, beer buyer, cheese buyer, coffee bar supervisor. And that team acts stuck up like they are smarter and better than the rest because you need more product knowledge to work there. All they do all day is snack on cheese and act like hipsters

All departments are important, no ones better than anyone else. This problem stems from higher up ~ proper leadership is rare. If it was there people wouldn't be getting away with crap all the way down to TLS . Trust me this is where the problem lies and will continue to without change

OP is an idiot but why the insults towards cashiers? You guys realize customer service is the only department that consistently gets asks questions about every other department in the store? All of you specialty people that think cashiers are just "button pushers" how often do customers ask you about a type of fruit of vegetable or questions about a vitamin they're debating buying? And then have to deal with them getting annoyed if you can't answer right away...There's no need to drag any departments down, they all require different skills but at the end of the day, are any of them freaking rocket science? No.

I used the believe the same thing about Specialty. It seemed like the easiest job in the store and I was determined to move to that department. Last Holiday season they needed some extra help and asked if any other store team members needed extra hours, so of course I volunteered. Holy moly, is specialty a hard job. I couldn't believe the questions they were asked and how much they all know. And keeping their cheese case, olive bar, etc stocked and nice is a never ending cycle you can't win. I went home sore, exhausted and overwhelmed. I think they do have some team members that try and get away with taking it easy, but the ones who do the job they are supposed to are pretty amazing. I have been trying to learn about cheese this whole year, in case they need people this year at the holidays and even after almost a year, I only know a fraction of what they know. Forget wine knowledge and beer knowledge. I was very surprised that they earn the same as the rest of us. It seems wring a cashier earns what a specialty person does.

hey April

You must not have been well traveled . just go to Paris and see the cheese shops and chocolatiers...They are knowledgable on that...

Get some education and shut up.

Eating your own. Knock it off. You are doing exactly what they want. Divide and conquer.

They are cutting down on Specialty buyers and sups. My store got rid of them all and now just the TL, ATL and normal TMs' remain.

Just about to say the same thing. Sounds like "April" is still holding thay.grudge and probably was fired to begin with.

Probably pushed the buttons up front and couldn't get any where else with her "skills"

Specialty requires a level of skill?! Are you f***ing kidding me?

It is a grocery store job! So they sent you to cheese wine, beer or coffee/choco class....what does that mean in the real world?

Not a thing! Your job is/was no better then stocking the shelves...you are just fooling yourself!

Specialty requires a level of knowledge I can't even begin to comprehend. They aren't smarter than everyone, but they definitely are experts in their field. Every specialty item has a huge margin and make a bucket of money. That is the one department that needs everyone they have.

WOW, you really have no clue what it takes do you...they ARE better than you. Specialty requires a level of skill far beyond taking items from truck to shelf, Moron.
