Of course this will be effective. "Oh you don't want to let your fellow team members down." "This won't accomplish anything." Oh, please. Our hard work and constant sacrifices are what haven't been effective. And it's not the TMs that would be letting down other TMs, it's leadership. Everyone can see right through these types of arguments because it's strongly suspected there will be more firings and layoffs no matter what. Perhaps if top leadership would announce they're cutting their pay in half with no stock options for two years for the executive committee, senior VPs and RPs and RVPs then we would believe this is all about "shared fate."
