Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Let's coordinate, organize, and strike if necessary

Team member at a store in the mid Atlantic region. Got a number of team members who are ready to unionize or at least open to it. We want to establish something concrete but feel it would be best to coordinate with others in the region and beyond...comment your contact info and any input you have, we can't just let them push us around like this. This is just the beginning, more layoffs are in store, and my store isn't about to go down without a fight

Unionizing could be a good option at this point.

Unions only care about money. Insurance (of all types, car, life, house, etc) and unions are basically legal extortion.

Say no to unions or we'll end up like kroger making $9/hr

Don't let "union" worm it's way into your brain!! As a TM who also doesn't know what lies ahead, I do not want to be forced into a union!! Yes it sucks that people were let go, but unfortunately it's a business first. TM happiness and excellence is a forgotten core value, or maybe had to be bumped down to the end of core values to be able to get WFM to where it once was, I'm really trying to stay positive and hopeful. Without stake holders, revenue, weeding out the dead weight, unnecessary positions, etc we could become obsolete. Unions are not necessary, don't be fooled into believing they are.

Let's not even talk about a union helping with pay. Let's talk about the fact that a union would not allow the rampant abuse of team members. I worked in several stores where schedules were never posted. Hours were changed at the drop of a hat. I was made to stay hours past my scheduled time. I wasn't even doing what I was hired to do but everyone else's work cause they couldn't keep team members and didn't hire new ones. Team members have no one to go to but the corrupt tmss who are terribly unprofessional in some situations. At least if there was a union the Team members rights as a worker would be upheld. If not a union then the team members should be allowed to employ an outside agency to handle team member issues and not handle bargaining rights. Whole foods is a terrible monster who treats their team members like crap and on top of it tells you how good they treat you. Reminds me of a lifetime movie about an abusive spouse. Whole foods is the worst company I ever worked for. It's a joke. The leadership in the stores sucks and are a bunch of glorified high school drop outs who are on a power trip cause someone told the they are important. I can't wait to see them all lose their jobs.

Don't anyone leave your contact info here if you are interested in unionizing. That would be fantastically stupid and retaliation would be certain. Contact a union rep directly.

5022, I am not Whole Foods management or any other company's management. I am someone who understands how basic economics work.

And if you want to prove your union point, compare apples to apples. State what salary your union can obtain for the workers, be sure to subtract your union dues from that salary, and compare that with Whole Foods is paying them. Then compare the health plan you can offer with the health plan Whole Foods is providing. Once you do those calculations, I believe the employees will do better without the union.

I do not have those numbers, especially the union numbers, so I cannot make those comparisons.

I hope if the employees are considering unionizing, they ask for these numbers.

OP here. I am an employee and I think I speak for the vast majority when I say that these layoffs are nothing short of an injustice to those who put in years of hard work And did things the right way, believing the employer they were working for was different than the rest. Those who have lost their jobs feel betrayed and those who remain fear what's next and I think it would be wise to take action before these "conscious capitalists" Make their next move.

Honestly, I'm a team member and want nothing to do with a union. Been their done that no thank you. There is a reason union membership is down nationally.

Hey trolling leadership, maybe do some actual research on unions first instead of regurgitate Whole Foods propaganda

Have you all thought that perhaps the above post isn't by a Whole Foods employee at all? But perhaps by a plain ole union organizer? Having a union is like having another layer of management. Except that all the employees don't pay for this layer - just the union members. And it's not cheap either. Consider carefully what you do.

Let's do this! The employing class and the working class have nothing in common!
