House voted to lift oil export ban

Here's to hoping it passes the Senate and doesn't get vetoed with the President! http://www.wsj.com/articles/house-votes-to-lift-oil-export-ban-1444411778

Sad state of affairs. The viewers of the site are, for the most part, employees or past employees of ConocoPhillips but the statement pro or con and the justification indicate a complete ignorance to the cause and effect of the price of gas and the export of oil. ConocoPhillips would benefit to limit the Kool-Aid and educate the employees with reality.

Because gasoline is cheaper to refine outside the USA.

By driving up oil prices how will this help lower gas prices. We are at an all time low on curde prices and yet gas is still over 2 dollars a gallon. If they can not ship US oil oversea then US refineries will be the once to process it and we keep our jobs here.

This is great news. Should lower gasoline prices which will help driving around for interviews.

It's a poor decision. If we have do not have the capabilities and are not allowed by our government to build new refineries the process our own natural resources how will that help the economy by shipping more jobs and opportunities overseas. Just one more way big oil and big industry strong arm the government into their pockets.

509, are you that out of touch? Free trade of oil is to our benefit! Our refineries are geared for the heavier crude we import more so than the light crude we produce, whereas on the open market that light crude would bring a much higher price. I agree in isolationism wher it comes to people, but not commodities....

I hope that it doesn't pass the senate it will not help anyone other then the stockholders. This is not good for the people nor will it save any job. They tell us that we are running out of oil and now we have to much and should be able to sale it oversea and yet gas prices are still high get real and stop letting them play you.

Washington Post article on same topic can be read in full, written as the vote approached. Good detail:

Great news for the consumers, more product to market. More product to market; but isn't that a problem for the producers...

Hopefully it boosts the industry before we all "transition to a low carbon economy" (Obama's stated reason for his veto threat). I guess this layoff is part of that "transition". If we can't afford cars or homes that need heating, it'll reduce our carbon footprints.
