Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

KKR

When is KKR going to pull the plug on EDMC. I heard it will be before February. Obviously they're not in this for the long haul and are tired of throwing more money down the drain.

Might explain how certain VPs and Directors are still around. KKR doesn't care if they're going to dump us and have students picked up by another school.

@162. I agree. There is something distasteful with the whole concept of "educational management." I don't get it. I wonder if students will look back fondly at their time at EDMC schools with a tear in their eye and say thank God my education was well managed. Sort of gives me the creeps.

EDMC has been circling the drain for a long time. You can't run a chain of schools when you have contempt for the concept of education and the faculty who are the first line of contact with students/'customers'. If KKR is smart not a soul in management understands the students, product or classrooms. None are educators, but rather MBAs who should never have been running schools. 2) Treat faculty with respect and hire people for more than $1500/class as McDonald's wages for the faculty who deal with your 'customers' guarantees low morale and trickle-down misery. If the faculty are unhappy, student retention and completion rates plummet, new enrollments are difficult and word gets out that this institution is a waste of time and money. 3) Hire educators rather than MBA 'tiger deans' to run the 'schools' that MBA management has destroyed. A complete lack of understanding regarding the nature of education and the desire to follow Todd Nelson (architect of doom & fraudulent education leader from UoP) sunk the product. Goldman Sachs sucked all the life out of this company with Nelson's help during the first two years after its acquisition. Once the product had been decimated, Nelson & the Wall St. management team dismantled the on-ground schools which were the only quality elements in the system. What is left is a rotting shell that masquerades as a vocational school. Warn friends, neighbors and everyone you know to avoid this 'school' at all costs.
