Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Crude prices and workforce reductions

I understand the fall in crude oil prices and the absolute necessity of workforce reductions. But the chickenshit way they get rid of you and escort you off their property, or use another facility thats not owned by them. Come on COP we are still human beings and with or without spirit values treat us like that. SPRIT values is bullshit propaganda!!!!

Maybe management determines who could be disruptive if allowed to go back and say goodbye and choose to not take the risk?seems odd that not everyone is handled the same way..risk has to come into play don't you think? I don't know just grasping for anything. Sorry you were treated unkind

Management must be reading this board. I was laid off today and allowed to return to office to pack and say goodbye. More humane but still a sad day.

In Houston we were treated like criminals. Called into a "meeting" without being told what it was about, then told we couldn't go back to our office, not even to collect our purse, etc. I promptly informed the HR person and the manager-- that we were not having any further conversations until I got my purse and my other belongings that I need to get home. The HR person said my manager could go get my purse. I said, fine, we will sit here until he returns. Then I took control and took the piece of paper the HR person had in front of her which was my severance write up. I began asking the questions, etc. And she said I thought you wanted to wait til manager got back. I said, Might as well not waste time. I did not let them push me around. On the way out, with the HR escort, I told her that I am trained in HR but have chosen NOT to work in HR because of events like this.

I guess some BU's have different cultures. The individuals in my group were allowed to collect their property and say their good-byes with out an escort or supervision. This served the individuals, team and company optics best. The process you mentioned is pretty heartless and should be corrected.

Hmmm...everyone in our building was allowed to go back to their office and pack up. Then they were able to say goodbyes to coworkers. As far as I saw there wasn't even a security person watching over them. I guess some BU's do it different...
