Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Qualcomm is dissing all Sr staff and higher engineers

Not only is SM calling all Sr Staff and higher engineers not worthy of receiving merit but he says only special groups will get this. What kind of POS company discriminates like this? At least do it in private and not make it a company wide email. Where the hell did he get his MBA? Cracker Jack box?

Murthy will leave first--he's already sold off all or most of his stock. The official reason will be "to pursue other opportunities." The real reason will be because he thinks people are dissing him when they fail to call him "doctor;" but in reality, they are dissing him because it's sort of pathetic that he still fails to grasp that in this country, only M.D.s usually require that level of ego stroking. SM will follow. Official reason will be "to spend more time with his family before pursuing other opportunities." The real reason will be because mechanics keyed the new Gulfstream when he outsourced maintenance to Mexico, and he's not sure if they tinkered with the engine before their last day at work. JANA will next officially "decide to cut their losses and pull out." Real reason: they will want to avoid involvement in any pending class actions. Cristiano, having been appointed interrim CEO, will not leave to the bitter end. Will claim that his "gifts" and "leadership" are "unappreciated." In reality, the Board of Directors will give him the option of resigning before they "vote him off the island."

177894: So long as the hole is large enough for SM, Murthy, Cristiano, and BarryJANA and the director sidekicks, who cares? We should start a betting pool to see how long it take them all to get pushed in. Three categories: Win = who gets pushed first; Place = what order they all get pushed; Show = lame excuses offered upon departing.

Jr engineers learn from the more senior engineers. Jr engineers may be the future but the more sr engineers innovate. QC is digging a big hole

Oh, and Whitney, you forget something: Jr. Engineers at QCOM don't, as a general rule, "possess bug fixes inside" at QCOM. They depend heavily on the Sr. Staff Engineers for that information--but of course they take credit for it.

OP: I'm not there any more, so frankly, I don't care if SM replaces all the senior staff and staff engineers with monkeys--or robots. If he thinks getting the 810 and other chipsets out in 64-bit because Murthy decided QCOM had to step up to 64-bit two freakin' months before tapeout was difficult with his best Staff and Sr. Staff engineers, let him fire us all--if we haven't left already. We deserve employers who at least appreciate our efforts when we go above and beyond the ordinary to get a product out--not an employer who uses it to downgrade performance reviews and terminate us as a "needless expense."

These execs are also handsomely paid and given huge "retention" bonuses. They are filling their coffers as well. They are the ones not worthy of receiving merit, as they are the ones who brought the company to this state. What they are doing may not be illegal, but I certainly find it immoral.

Execs teams transparency is showing how much they hate paying the more senior guys and it might be a conspiracy to belittle them into leaving. It's a sad to see that moving up in the engineering ranks gets you nothing. 2016 should be very entertaining to watch these rookies execs continue with their bone headed schemes to maximize profit for the super rich and not the success of the company and its employees.

Anonymous177246: you are stupid! Q seems to still hiring... And we don't have 30000+ folks. Finally, taking care of "a" , "mature" , chipset is not all that Q does. Get your facts straight before posting...

I decided long ago, never to code in anyone's shadows

If gcc fails, if gcc succeeds

At least I'll code as I believe

No matter what they take from me

They can't take away my github ssh key

Because the greatest code of all

Is happening to me

I found the greatest code of all

Inside of me

The greatest code of all

Is easy to achieve

Learning to code yourself

makes the greatest code of all

I second OP. no wonder Q has become somewhat of a trashy place and has been accused of not respecting their employees. Starts from the top... Can't believe an executive can blatantly isolate and state that only a certain group of people in his company is the basis/foundation for our future?.. What does he think the rest are doing? Seriously! This kind of things IMO, needs to be done discretely... Where does this guy get his MBA from? He needs to send out a follow up email to his employees on this put down of other hard working employees. Either believe in your employees (as much as you are expecting employees to believe in the company and the leadership) or don't. Can't have it both ways, at least not so transparently...

Most of the work were done by Junior engineers. More Sr Staff and above should be cut.

I believe jr. engineers are our future

Teach them well and let them lead the way

Show them all the bugfixes they possess inside

Give them a sense of pride to make it easier

Let the jr engineer's github account remind us how we used to be

Are you serious! That is crazy. SM gets $60M year after year. He doesnt have the balls to say he will cut his salary for 1 year and save 600 jobs! What a joke.

On the other point, yes, there are a lot of unqualifiied dropouts who are Directors and Managers. Promotions are not merit based.
