Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Those with families are being punished the most

As a single mom, I'm being kicked out of a company that I've worked hard 10yrs with. Well, not being kicked out, just given circumstances that make it impossible for me to work, make enough, and have a child. The company just wants a revolving door of college kids. Well guess, what? They're not invested like us, and the quality and customer service is going to fly out the window. I've worked a certain shift for the last 5 years and excelled at it. My mother watches my 3yr old then goes to her job when I come home. Full time childcare is too much. But now, I essentially need to be available 24-7 with "one exception allowed." This company, and the store leaders who didn't speak up should be ashamed of themselves. Wasn't there some kind of advocate in the meetings before all these restructuring decisions? Just feel sucker punched.

You think way too highly of yourself. There are good and bad mixes with both college students and the "older" employees. Many of the older employees at my store do half-assed jobs daily and get paid much more than the rest, while thinking they're untouchable because they've been with the company so long. Yes it's true that some of the college students don't see the job as anything more than temporary, although I've seen many who go above and beyond for their jobs and end up staying with the company because they want to move up.

Sorry but being a single mother doesn't make you any better than anyone else who has rent to pay and other bills. The fact that you even need to bring that up shows that you think that status is more important than work ethics.

I feel ya. 13 yrs for me. And they gave me the option to allow my career to die a slow, painful death by asking me to take less pay and go to a struggling store. No thanks.

The outsiders that who.le food hired directly as SL or ASTL feel more secure when they hire temporary employees like collage kid part timer or outsider like themself .the success of any company is in their identity these people are changing the identity of WF for profite so it brings corruption and favoritism ,they can not work with the people like you since you are not going be corrupt after 10 years in WF culture with all the training so you are the problem. But this way they will kill this co and move on like desis to another body.so sad but true.

LOL! Advocate? The advocate will be honored with an All Star both at regional and Global level. Whoever came up with this idea is a genius to them. That's how they roll in Wholefoods. The "FAT" is surely at the regional offices but they go full force in the stores to clean up to leave it extra lean. This company is full of liars and pretenders.
