Base salary of $138K for staff software in QC is more than usual. They must be desperate, or they probably plan on working your ass 70+ hrs. per week. A $15K relocation package will barely cover your deposit on a rental and moving your crap-cross-country by U-Haul.

Ironically, I just got a job offer from QC in the modem group, Staff engineer 138k. Is that low? Offering me a relo upto 15K which is probably not going to cut it for me since I live in the east coast.
I found a job fluffing cats for a porn shoot, its awesome.
In my group, of the two RIFs.that I know about, one found a job and the other is still looking.
Anonymous179704. If you are a fat ass IT worker that has a primary job function of level 1 support, in which most of your time is spent on asking the question "is your computer turned on?/did you try to unplug and replug the USB device back in?", right before you transfer the call to level 2 or 3 support...well yeah, you might have a problem finding a job.... In the u.s.
Anonymous179642. And your 10 of 1000 bullshit statistic is from what reliable source of data ( other than your fat ass)????
1% success rate? San Diego job market is very competitive
10 out 1000 people get job offers is not a good sign.
Bitterlandlord is more bitter than ever with all his doomsayer lurker conspiracies
I am now lead cashier at McDonalds. Pay sucks, but I get 2 free meals a day. Much better than working at Qcom.
the HW jobs require monthly trips to Asia. You will earn your salary for a change.
Well guys(gals) that have found a good position elsewhere, a big congratulations to you. I thought that there was a lot more skeptics and sour grapes doomsayer losers that probably can't find a decent job because their skills suck and/or because they burned a few bridges. Looks like well qualified people like you folks here are not really having any issues. Oh boy, the doomsayers that were hoping for the end of the world/housing/economy/tech are sure going to be disappointed.
I think the bottom line is if you're good and/or you have people that can vouch for your reputation, you really aren't going to have a problem finding something reasonably comparable. I was surprised there was a lot more opportunity here in SD than I thought there would be. I was worried I was going to have to relocate to Bay Area and deal with the housing crisis up there and general (lack of) available good looking pussy.
Anonymous179523, I know... Benefits are ridiculously good. I'm worried more like the growth is slowing and the have an office in Bangalore too. I'm actually entertaining another offer from Walmart.com. Pay is even better. h
Intuit is good, go for it...here Staff Engineer, I have an offer of 147K and their medical would be much better than QC will have in2016
Fitness device company. Senior firmware engineer. $166k. (colleague of mine)
Wow
Where?
Staff Engineer bio tech 177K
Got two offers, one with Intuit. $129k/year plus I'm told by colleagues cash bonus is around 20%. Not sure I want to work on tax software though.
Cool bro
My experience also. Wish I had left Q earlier.
3 offers in North County. All over 100K
Same here. No issues except which to select with best RSU
Multiple offers in SD
Plenty of hardware jobs in SD. Starting pay 98K no problem.
Even if some did find a comparable job (which they did, since I know at least one hiring director at a tech company in SD who picked up a few Qualcomm firmware engineers recently... IT workers, on the other hand, might be screwed), what's the point in posting about it? As a doomsayer that lurks on this section of the layoff.com, I wouldn't believe it anyway, since I am waiting/hoping for the end of the world/housing/stock market crash, just so I can feel better about your own pathetic economic plight. As a result, I would only believe things that would tend to fit my negative narrative anyway. So, I'm going to keep convincing myself things are bad out there and the sky is falling. Meanwhile, for others, life goes on.
