Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The kids are alight, and they are listening.

Apparently the posts to this discussion forum are being read not just by leadersip and the rank in file. University students being recruited and considering careers paths have also been following along. Recruiters better be ready for tough questions about the level of dysfunction at Chevron. The kids aren't stupid. Inexperienced yes but not stupid.

If I were to name the 5 majors that I worked at, including Chevron at present, I would no longer be anonymous.

Anonymous142779: since you have worked at 5 majors, could you please let us know more about where the others are dysfunctional?

Bunch of whinney pussies overpaid pussies on these boards. 99% of the population would kill to have a job at cvx.

From someone who has worked at 5 majors, they all are f***ed up, each one in it's own unique way.

After the last major downturn, CVX had a very difficult time get 50% of their petrotech college recruiting offers filled. The enterprise campus recruiting folks have worked very hard over the last two decades to change that to over 80%. And you know what? A bunch of those hires have trudged through the mire of "processes" and become pretty damn useful to the bottom line. We are turning the tide backwards and heading back to the days when we had a really bad reputation as a professional workplace. I was there then and I am here now and I see a real slow-motion charlie foxtrot unfolding.

ideally if you get an offer from CVX..... get all the training they have to offer....... then move on to greener pastures...... and make some money and get some responsibility before you get that glazed cvx look over your eyes..... riding the van pool hanging on to the dream of a cushy pension and GLT rights :)

GL all.

College kids are very social networking people. I am telling my kids to stay out of Chevron, it sucks.

I would not recommend the Screwed up IT Function to any new hire. What a screwed up management team, such egos for an unqualified management team. I see no Leadership skills in any of the ITC team. Really Watson? It is time to remove the heads and start a whole new IT management team. The idiots need to go.

If they get a job offer from Chevron, they will take it. There are not a lot of offers out there with the massive amount of industry layoffs.

I won't. I'll be objective but I won't lie. I'm a recruiter

The recruiters will just deny everything and say that it is just a "few disgruntled employees" who think this way. But I agree with you that the college kids are not stupid. The caveat is that if a kid gets an offer from CVX he or she is surely going to take it in this tough job market. They will get their foot in the door to the industry, see how CVX is even more screwed up than they expected, and seek to jump ship to an independent when oil price turns around.
