Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Layoffs, a blessing in disguise?

From 1996 to 2006, a group of scientists went onsite at Boeing to study what happens when a company is inundated with layoffs. They wrote a book about the study -

"Turbulence: Boeing and the State of American Workers and Managers". They claim that laid-off employees were actually better off than the ones who stayed behind and struggled to stay relevant and visible, do the work of several employees and hold onto their jobs.

There are no ungrateful employees here, brother! What we have here is an ungrateful company. Get your perspective straight!

It's always easier to land a job when you have one. Employers always look at unemployed workers as a riskier proposition than a candidate that is currently employed in the field in which they are applying for. Last time I checked indentured servitude and slavery are illegal, if you want to leave spend more time on your resume than your go 400-2. I started the job hunting process prior to R1, I did not get the package but if I get any bites and they are better opportunities than what I am currently doing I will be jumping ship.

In my department it was the people with less than ten years tenure that expressed their interest to be laid off. What does that say?

A selective change in leadership at all levels will be the best thing for our company. We ascended too many of the wrong people into positions of leadership and never auto-corrected many of the obvious mistakes. Chevron lost oversight of this growing problem because it didn't think there was a real problem. This was perhaps because the leadership problem was masked by the big money the company was continuing to make year after year, in spite of itself. The company also has to look at another equally significant problem... that of many employees not producing to an adequate level for their job. I suppose the ROMs and RAEs are trying to address both problems at the same time. Time will only tell.

it will be a self correcting problem as this plays out. big or small doesn't matter.... poor performance results in the same impact and same necessary reshuffle.

I would agree. You can tell by this board as people are asking for severance. You know your company is toast when people want to flat out quit. It is going to get worse. Not sure how it can but it will. We need a sweeping change in leadership and I just don't see that happening.
