Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

doctor

you engineers are just sad.. I've been a primary physician for over 10+ years.. I am not making a killing (after taxes and liabilities, i'll take home around $135k-140k annually), but I can practice into my late 60s or 70s.. the schooling was long (not difficult!) but it was worth it.. my job becomes more relaxing as I get older.. you guys are just sad.. engineers are labelled to be smart, but you guys don't have long-term vision.. not all engineers are exceptional and be at the right place and time... on an average, most engineers are just stupid.. sorry to say that..

@ 143546: Bzzzt!!! Sorry you lose--but thank you for playing. Anyone who has a family member who is a doctor in family practice, general practice, or OB/GYN knows that it's NOT relaxing. If you work for a hospital or clinic, you are expected to see a MINIMUM of 6-8 patients per hour--from the time you come in to the time you leave at night. Which can be pretty late, because you also have to have your charts for that day updated with proper diagnosis codes, and send in the info to whoever does the bookkeeping/accounting functions for the EOBs for over 58 potential insurers in some cases. If you work for yourself, you usually have to take care of the grunt work in your "spare time" --like finding affordable malpractice insurance--which for some specialties is now ovwer $150K per year even if you've never been sued. You also spend a lot of time fighting with insurance companies, explaining to some wiseass who majored in podiatry but never practiced a day in his life why a GP who has seen a kid every f***ing visit since the age of 6 mos. is just as qualified to prescribe Ritalin for ADHD as a psychiatrist or psychotherapist--which isn't covered by the mother's Medicaid or CHIPS.

Single doctors practices do have trouble getting patients in the door when they reach their 50s, especially new patients in their teens thru 30s who are looking for a doctor for the long term, and who may have kids in the future (thereby bringing them even more patients). No one wants a doctor who will retire in 5-10 years because they'll just have to find a new doctor. Remember, it's the teens thru 30s patients that are the least amount of work, and who are the most routine and relaxing to handle.

Nice try. You are not mature enough to be a doc.

Engineers are a bunch of pathetic fools. Who's laughing at whom now? While you fools get panic trying to move around finding jobs every few years, doctors are stationary. $200k in student loans ain't that much. We can practice into our 70's because we only treat common diseases and still take home $130k (this is after taxes!). The jobs are f*cking relaxing like there's no work at all as if you're working as US federal employees. Don't be jealous. Good luck having enough money for retirement. All of you will get axed mid 40's or early 50's. You'll be done. Sorry lame-ass stupid engineers.

Yeah, so were those years I wasted getting a Ph.D. But having a Director who only had a B.S. from some tech school in the south had its amusement value.

You can become Sr Staff/Director just with a BS? My MS is wasted!

And most doctors are narcissistic assholes--but while we'd still probably see you to diagnose our STDs after that date with the chick from AM, we wouldn't trust you to get rid of that stupid pop-up that keeps telling you to "reserve your FREE copy of Windows 10 NOW!"

If you really think about it, a senior staff engineer will make more than many primary physicians, pediatricians, and general practitioners with only a bachelors degree. No student loans that sets you back for 10-15 years. There are many bad doctors just as there are many bad engineers.
