Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Honest opinions about AMBU.

I may have to move to AMBU. The common perception is that the BU is a bunch of hillbilly mouth-breathers. Is it that bad?

If you are young attractive man like myself stay away. Nigel Hearne will hound you for time. "Ahoy mate, you look lonely, do you need company?". No I don't swing that way. Just because I have the look Nigel needs to keep his hands to himself and quit hugging me like I am his wife. He always asks "Do you want to smell my finger?". What does that even mean. He whispered that in my ear at the coffee pot. Stay away!

It never appealed to me to go work up there in Appalachia. I went up there to check the place out when Chevron first bought Atlas. All those backwater hill billy types swigging moonshine and smoking their corn cob pipes... just to realize that I had arrived at the field office just outside Moon Township. Those bastards were to be my co-workers if I decided to take the position. The one smoking the pipe was to be my future boss. I high tailed it outta there and flew back to Houston that very night. You can keep AMBU. Not for me!

If this place was still Atlas we would be drilling 350 wells like the rest of the independents here. Atlas also did not kill employees. Chevron hired fast food kids as well site managers. I was at Atlas for 7 months when Chevron bought them. After the retention bonus I left. The Atlas trash is still there with the clueless Chevron employees. I saw here on a post where Chevron is the joke of the basin. Indeed they are. We have 34 people and drill twice as many wells without killing contractors. And yes the people that were left after the reorganization was shocking. Most of the Chevron leaders leave after 2 years. What a f***ed up business model. For the two years I was there I had 5 different supervisors that never saw a perf gun. A friend told me about this board and it is funny but sad as it's all true. What a bunch of egotistical punks your company is filled with. You loose. You fail. You go bankrupt. It was Crystal clear AMBU was done 3 years ago. Once your Reliance JV is done in October you are toast. And yes this is a small basin so the word is out do not hire anyone from Chevron.

It's bad. I moved here from San Ramon and am hanging on by a thread. The ROM brought hope, but the same inadequate people were left in leadership roles. There are many talented and experienced people with global Chevron experience who work under these horrible L2 and L3 leaders. Nepotism at its worst. Wish I had a crystal ball- I would declined coming to AMBU. Next step is quitting. Can't stomach uneducated and inexperienced people telling me how to perform MY company.

The Appalachia unit was profitable before being acquired by Chevron. It is Chevron's overheard and overkill with processes that have sucked the unit dry.

I am here and it's bad. They changed the organization in the ROM and now we at least can see some metrics. They have improved marginally but the cost per well are 3x the competitors cost and Chevron is losing a ton of money here. They can not drill more than 50 wells because the lack of understanding work flow. And I agree that the writing is on the wall. Many are just blind to it and the ones that see it as plain as day can not ask specific questions as you will be alienated. We have two core areas we are now focusing on and Land has screwed this up with the help of D&C. Are lease holds look like swiss cheese. We are losing just under 2 bucks for every M we produce. Not make but loose. Once this JV is done I agree with the previous poster that this will be the mother of all ROM's. They brought in Jeff Schelemberger to lie and say....WE ARE COMMITTED LONG TERM. Once you see costs after JV carry and the wells plan of a measly 52 wells this BU is done. But people will still believe.....Why would Jeff lie.....ah, because he can! I hate this place. The sun shines 1 a month. There are no easy roads all back country hill B.S........colder than a witches tit in the winter and the sun never comes out in the winter....I mean NEVER!

They 23 year plan is for 50 wells a year. No BU can sustain on that amount of activity in boom times let alone in these extremely troubled times. They have 50 D&C engineers. This is in no way sustainable. One reason Chevron bought Atlas was the JV deal with reliance which transferred to Chevron upon purchase. The JV agreement was for 5.5 years. 40% of total cost and 75& of D&C cost up to 1.7 Billion. The JV deal ends in October and you will see a HIUGE RIF! After AMBU first ROM they told me I had to go to AMBU or not have a job. I agreed to not have a job than go. I am still at Chevron and they have not pushed the issue. AMBU is a wreck, and your job is in jeopardy if you move there,. Chevron will not think twice about moving you there and shutting the BU down and having 50m people to run the NOJV. There are a select few long time Chevron folks there that I trust and they said DO NOT COME. The main reason is they see that you just can't justify 700 FTE's for 50 wells. If you do go get a contract if your laid off they will move you back home. If they don't offer that you can rent imn PA as it is rather cheap. I would never think about buying a home as that place won't be there in the short run. My friends there are kept in the dark as that's the way Chevron is, but I do have a VP level friend that will say....if you can't see the writing on the wall shame on you! I take that as they are done with a full BU. Royal Dutch Shell realized very early that they could not do unconventional in the Marcellus and bolted. Exxon bought XTO and has left them alone, in the shell game. When they thin the heard and you have no chair you won't be able to move as Chevron has no empty chairs and won't for a while. Again I would keep 50 drilling engineers if Reliance is paying 75% of their time......I am soooooo happy I did not go there.

I don't think so. They Have been through rough times and have gained some humility. I respect many people there. The board comments are polarized so take with a tablespoon of salt. I don't work there but I work closely with them. Only risk is how long is the job.
