Ha! This was the Annual SPWLA conference guys, so it's 90% nerd attendance. Take it from someone who's been to them, the goal is to try to make the host having the party go broke by drinking the free bar dry. I find it funny that a lot of the pictures have Halliburton peeps in them, but everyone in the industry is represented there.

Sales & Business Development people are the reason of technical people get paid. They are bringing new business, new contracts, open new market areas to maximize profit. But Marketing, you refer to, are busy in preparing magazines & entertainment events.

Sales & Marketing is a different world. They spend large amounts of money claiming it keeps the customers happy and they are paid well for their party skills, none of them have true technical skills. Of course there would be no customers without the technical people that develop products. The technical people should be paid twice what they get today because they are the company. That is one of the greatest fears of corporations and why they are lobbying for more visas to bring in low paid people fro other countries.

I predict the deal will fall through, BHI stock will fall to $15 and the company will be sold off in pieces.

Damn it. This just goes to show me again that engineering was the wrong choice of work to get into. All we engineers get to do is spend 12 hour days busting ass to get products to market.

I quit before they could lay me off, but things like this don't surprise me. Look at how much they spend just on sports tickets. As they started the layoffs, I personally set up amortization schedules for sports tickets for around a million. In one month. That isn't half of the wasteful spending that occurs. Why else would they have to send emails out about spending company money at the skin bar. Don't be surprised when this company goes bankrupt if the deal doesn't go through.
