Volunteering for a severance package

Seems like a lot of people are volunteering to take the severance package. Can some of our May "volunteers" describe how this process works. If you volunteer are you able to set when your last day will be ?

They have, but there are always side-deals going on. If a supervisor likes you and has a history with you and KNOWS you want the package, I'm sure he considers it when selecting those from his group to lay off. It is all subjective, and they continue to treat those persons just like any other laid off employee.

Haven't they made it abundantly clear that there are no voluntary severance packages?

Volunteers were treated like all other lay offs. They had no say in the terms. This way they would receive the severance package.
