Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

GOMBU: Spread the news, encourage dialog, fire your own management

I strongly urge you Chevron folks to create awareness around this "www.thelayoff.com/chevron" forum / site. Make it public, encourage your folks to participate and bring in objective and yet unfiltered feedback. You will be surprised. So much good energy in this company, yet unleashed energy thanks to our incompetent management. I am not asking to fix the problem, but rather make it visible make it real. Hopefully some smart leaders will read it. Manage and influence upwards, be bold, and be unfiltered. I done my part and I chose to move on regardless if I have a job after this ROM or not. Most likely not. I am the manager who speaks his mind and don't fit in. I never really fit in and that's OK> Chevron never fit in with me but I am in control of my own destiny. I have control :-)

Nope, never worked in an sbu or a refinery, never worked in 5 diff countries, never an ops mgr. Crap attitudes and the inability to work together creates an environment which is unsustainable. Complain all you want but at the end of the day jobs are leaving LA and the blame game is the reason why. Have to get back to knowing nothing, thank you chevron board for being so entertaining. when we go through our layoffs hopeful we don't look so pathetic as ya'll.

146016: You cant possibly work at GOMBU. You have no grasp of operations what so ever. You dont know the difference between a stabbing board or the Vee Door Key

Office staff fighting with the field staff. Rig 173 I am sure there are many things office staff do that you can't nor would you want to as I am sure there are many things office staff would not want to do nor have the balls to attempt. Is it the reason your bu is getting cut or the result, either way if you all were working as a team this type of infighting would not be taking place. The blame game benefits no one but shows how limited both sides have been in being a true team and hence the cuts that might appear larger than needed relative to other bu's. Maybe just maybe the cancer needs to be removed. But hey blame it on each other and toss in a dash of leadership fault as well XOM out.....

We work at the same place. But dont see it your way. Can you write a Drilling or Completion prog? Do you hold a master well control card? Can you survive in the land of the "Rig Red's" I think not.

I have been working in and around the Gulf for many years and can tell you in no uncertain terms that the Mandeville office staff is one of the most hard-working and professional as I have seen in decades. And I've been around since way before everything was Politically correct and smoke free. On the the other hand, the field personnel are the most petulant, childish and have the most entitled, spoiled brat attitudes of anywhere in the Gulf. How long has it been like this at CVX? Where do you get your field people, from the Spoiled Brat Romper room uppity class? I've never seen so many crew members who think that they can do anything but consistently Botch everything up from incompetence and then always cast blame on others, primarily on office personnel, as if they are jealous and envious that people with credentials get better positions. What do they think, the world owes them a living? They're lucky to have a job these days. I've never come across this level of arrogance, petulance and entitlement with any other major or independent.

Who is "The Help" and what is their purpose?

Covington and Mandeville are small towns and is where most of the Chevron employees at the GOMBU office reside. Makes sense if a major employee cut takes place, many folks will sell their home and leave the area. Property prices will obviously take a hit.

Mandeville is taking a hit. I talked with a realtor last week (I was recently cut too!!) she said that because of layoffs at Chevron and She'll we are looking at a 10% decrease in property values. We just keep getting f***ed!!!

The problem with GOMBU is the piss poor people and petulant, childish attitude of the office staff. The field people are fine. Sniveling, snitching office employees who are continuously looking for a reason to cry to HR like they were in the playground of junior high again. The worst are those from the local area, embedded and institutionalized to the pathetic and hostile culture, especially against anyone not local. So much for diversity. Hopefully this office will close down as it is a disgrace compared to every other business unit. Its no wonder everything is going up for sale or literally falling in to the ocean.

The Help is standing on the burning building called GOMBU and waving a flag saying this is not just a symptom but a systematic issue in all of Chevron. Asking WTF? Do something about this leadership! We only get real opinion on a fvcking internet board! I agree, these haters are long term Chevron employees. They looked up a process to figure out The Helps strategy. And since there is no process of "understanding a layoff board" they feel attacked or manipulated. This does reveal sooooooo much more about the state of our employees.

Lol at Anonymous144792! You nailed it. They can not figure out how daming these posts are....the person reposting understands that some of these in particular can show a company is complicit in a fatality or just plain poor performance if you have these type of leaders. I don't know these particular scenarios but they show EXTREME incompetence. For example if we are not snubbing because of one persons decision we have a very very broke management system.

F***o people repost things they deem as important because they either get burried in a thread or burried from so many posts. Manipulated? If the guy is cutting and pasting it s pretty dam transparent! You must be a long term Chevronite. You are the dumb ass's that drive me to drink working here. You can't even figure out the simple strategy on a layoff board. Please STFU.

Yes, No , and Maybe

I enjoy reading the posts from different parts of the company, but it reminds me of the painful "merger" with Texaco. The overt and underhanded crap that went on at Texaco was every bit as dirty as those reported here. I have reason to believe that posts here are being manipulated, but I don't know by whom. For example, a post that I made SEVERAL days ago is being displayed as if I just posted it a few hours ago. Not sure WHY anyone would want to do that.
