Protection period for new hires might be true for companies like Shell or Chevron, there is no such thing in COP. Get ready, everyone.

Many OCR got laid off in April, nobody is safe.

If you were hired via university recruiting you are on campus recruit (OCR) and you have job security to the extent you have a job for three years minimum unless you are a complete idiot. All other "new hires" cannot be so comfortable.

I'm a new hire and started in March. Don't know what to expect...

Anonymous145436, I don't know the definition of OCR, but I saw lots of new hires let go in April. I didn't see anything wrong with many of those kids, it's just bad timing. Many only worked here for 1 year. With negligible packages and short resumes, it's tough.

Yes ConocoPhillips will not layoff OCR to keep the university recruiting pipeline in good standing. OCR is an HR term and a notation in the HR system.

Anonymous145096 - You are an arrogant joke! I don't want to pit young v old, but I never look outside COP without witnessing many, many young people walking in groups to get coffee, walking to get a drink at Subway, and NOW walking to Sonic in addition to taking outside breaks to talk on cell phones. This doesn't even address the amount of time spent on FB, U-tube, and movies on your tablets and phones. Don't be too sure of yourself.

assume no one is safe. Whether you get cut depends what kind of role you are in, what your supervisor thinks of you, and what other supervisors think of you. It's difficult to high grade new hires, so I imagine if a new hire role gets cut, the new hire in it gets cut. It also depends how new you are - if you've been around long enough to show that you could replace someone more experienced then that might happen because new hires are cheaper.

It's not clear that COP has decided exactly who will be cut below management levels so the best thing you can do is perform at your best, while creating a plan B.

That's incorrect. New hires face the same scrutiny, evidenced by the new hires let go in April.

Because they are smarter and better performers than the rest of employees.

Why would they be reluctant to lay off OCRs? Just to keep the pipelines in good standing for recruiting?

The non on campus recruits (OCR) are in line to be laid off. The new hires recruited directly via a college by ConocoPhillips university recruitment staff are safe.

No they will be promoted to fill the laid off supervisor positions.
