Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Should I take Contract job at QC ??

I have been contacted by two recruiting agencies for the contract job at QC. My target is to be permanent employee at QC, is this a good way to start since QC is laying off. Please advise.

Still a good company name to have on your resume. However, some temps are known to be treated pretty badly at QC so that's my only concern. Some folks in upper management chain simply have no class and self-respect.

No benefits. If you're desperate, take it. Otherwise, you can do better than this sweat shop.

Oh, OP's situation is probably real. The week after I left QCOM, I got several contract offers that sounded suspiciously like they were for a job I had left in QTC. QCOM wants to "thin the herd" of employees, but it doesn't necessarily mean they don't need all the people they have in some groups or departments.

Take it, but don't count on it becoming permanent. Qualcomm sometimes keeps temp employees on for years because a department cannot get approval for additional permanent headcount. Headcount, like everything at Qualcomm, is largely political, and not at all based on need. It's an opportunity to determine if you really want to work at Qualcomm--if you are not politically well-connected, it can be a truly awful place to work. While there, though, you can build your resume, make contacts, and continue looking.

Dont think this is fake, the job description says the position is in QCT modem testing.

Seems fake. If laying off, why is somebody getting a req?

If you're starving and need money, take the job. Otherwise, don't waste your time with a declining company line QUALCOMM.

I actually think they will not have to lay many off, since all the good people are leaving preemptively. I would take the job if it is a good match. All high tech jobs in san diego are temporary lol.

Take it. Just don't count on it being permanent.

Yes, take it. You can then quit and give me back my job after a few months. Then we can repeat next year.
